With the upcoming 3D, next-gen version of Bionic Commando on it's way, it looks like Capcom is going the way of Metroid and it's excellent GBA 2D re-imaginings.

This looks to not only pay homage to the NES original, but add new weapons, abilities, and 2 player simultaneous gameplay (hopefully online multiplayer as well).

I had heard whisperings of this in recent weeks, but it looks like IGN has some great screen shots and footage of the game up now.

Is that 2nd playable character ... Dante?

This looks excellent, and I'm probably MORE excited about this than the next-gen game. I've always been a big Bionic Commando fan, and as memorable as the NES game was ... I've always preferred the arcade version. (If you've never tried the arcade version, it's on Capcom Classics Volume One for PS2 and XBOX, and Capcom Classics Remixed for PSP. It's one of Capcom's best arcade outings IMO.)

This goes down in history a the best thing that ever happened.

It's about goddamn time. Maybe we'll get a true 2d sequel after this release. But if not, I'll settle for this.

Haha, no. It's also brutal, but if you are good at 2D side-scrolling twitch shooters like Metal Slug and Contra, it's ABSOLUTELY finish-able with minimal stress.

In fact, thinking about the quasi-chibi character designs, I'm pretty sure that Metal Slug drew a bit of influence from B.C. Arcade.

This is really awesome - I'm hoping it will spawn a slew of new side scrolling/2-d type old school games on the psn network. I agree than I too am looking forward to this version more than the new 3D one

I think time has clouded a few minds here. The arcade Bionic Commando sucked. Big time. Play Capcom Classics Collection for proof.

The NES version, on the other hand, is a classic.

Well ... it's never been a matter of "time" for me, as I've spent plenty of time with it in the arcade in the late 80's (used to be able to finish it on one credit), on MAME, and later with the excellent ports on C.C.C. ...

always enjoyed it, and never thought that it sucked.

Ah, sorry for the double thread action Diskoboy.

I DID use the search feature and searched for "bionic commando" ... but your thread didn't come up on the first page or two. (For me anyway!)

In fact, most times that I use the search engine, I get a strange "you didn't use a term containing the minimum of 4 words" error...so, perhaps the search engine just doesn't like me.

I SUBMITTED THIS THREAD TO BE LOCKED ... please continue the discussion in Diskoboy's thread! Thanks!
