Hi! I was wondering if you guys could please answer these questions for me.
1- When I was looking at the back of the Saturn to replace the battery I noticed this black cloth strip under the battery. I don't need that right?
2- How exactly do you play imports with the code devices? I plan on using GameShark with the PS and Saturn and a Code Breaker for the DC or various other GS type discs. Do I just go to "Begin Game With(out) Codes" and swap? Or do I hold buttons during it?
3- What are the odds of 3rd-party controllers actually burning out the system? I've heard problems about it but haven't had any myself. Is this mainly just for multi player when more current is going through?

1 - the black cloth strip is like the ones in a discman - I've never attempted to remove one of them before but I don't think it will hurt it. My Japanese Saturn is missing that on it and it works fine with the new battery I installed.
2 - I've never used the Gameshark to play imports - for Saturn I can personally say, you have a few options for imports..like the ST-KEY or Action Replay cart which plugs into the mem cart slot.
3 - I've never heard of this before

if I recall correctly you press a b c + start while leaving the menu and it shoudl boot the imports just fine.

Thanks guys. I also have a question about universal ac plugs. I presumed each system ran on its own current?

LOL Just posted this in another thread. Power between USA and JPN systems is the same as well, as has been said. Technically they're SLIGHTLY different but JPN stuff works on USA power just fine.
Hands down the best way to play games from other regions on the Saturn is to hardmod your system. If you can't do the work yourself I have one up for sale right now (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=106124). I believe as a new user you have to wait 10 days before you have access to the Buying and Selling areas of the forum however. If you'd like me to give you some details before then, just shoot me a PM. Welcome to Digital Press!

I've been reading up on some of the saturn carts that let you play imports and I seem to be reading that some let you play only certain games. I picked up a cart at a local mom and pop store call Game Craze. Now, I no longer have this cart which I'm kicking myself for, but it wasnt the ST-KEY or anything I've found online, I can swear it was a official sega device but I could be wrong, I paid $15 for it and it worked with all my imported games, or at least the 10 I owned at the time.

There are no official Sega branded region cartridges. Some cartridges (most of the Action Replay 4-in-1's) need to be modified to play the majority of the 4MB RAM expansion games. There are a couple JPN region games that come with a special ROM cartridge (King of Fighters '95 and Ultraman if I remember correctly) that is required for play. This is not a RAM expansion but instead a ROM cartridge with game sprites and code contained in it required by the game. If you're using a region cartridge you cannot play these games because the cartridge slot is taken up. Also you cannot use a memory cartridge when using a region cartridge because again, the slot is taken up. A hardmod uses switches to allow the play of USA/JPN and sometimes EUR games without the use of any cartridges or disc swapping.
