DS Lite cracks still happening?

i was cruising the net, and found this:

so i checked my ds, and sure enough its developed a crack through the left hinge by the L button. So on a whim i called nintendo and was told since i picked up my ds lite when they first came out, its no longer under warranty and would cost 80.00 for a repair! the csr was very curteous but jeez 80.00 bucks for a repair that i think is a design flaw?!

has anyone else noticed a crack develop on their system? I take very good care of my systems, and even keep my ds in a case when im out & about.

Mine cracked in the EXACT same place yours did. I have to play it while my thumb holds up the screen. I got mine around a year after they were released. I also had an Apple iBook that did the EXACT same thing a couple of years back. It's a little bit harder holding that screen up........

EBGames here had a really swell trade-in deal a while ago (bring in your old DS Lite, get a new one for just $10). Maybe you can find something similar.

Call them back. Explain that you know it was a manufacturing defect and if they won't repair it, request a manager. Tell them that you read online that small cracks were just cosmetic and wouldn't worsen but that yours has indeed gotten worse. They are right, you are out of warranty, but when it is a known manufacturing defect they should still be obligated to repair for free.
