View Full Version : My GameCube Buying Is Done

It wasn't that long ago (probably sometime during the first half of 2007...or maybe the latter part of 2006) that I bought what was my 100th title for the GameCube. Originally I planned to end my collection at 100 titles for this system but I soon decided there were still some titles left that I still wanted. Now I've reached 150 titles and have decided that's enough for this system. There just aren't that many titles left that interest me. I'm happy with my collection and have lots to play and don't feel I need to own every game ever brought out for the system. For the record, I bought my GameCube on its Launch Day and the two games I bought that day were All-Star Baseball 2002 (which I no longer have) and Stars Wars: Rogue Leader--Rogue Squadron II (which I do). My 150th and final game purchase was Sonic Heroes.

Oh yes, in case anyone wonders if there's a chance I might still buy something in the future if I come across a really good game I've not come across before...it's possible. All I'd h ave to do would be to then get rid of another game to keep the collection at 150 titles (I like round numbers). The game I'd get rid of would be one of my lesser games. I'm not sure what that would be...but I do have that copy of P.N.03...

150 Gamecube titles isn't a bad number. I think it would be cool to have a complete GC collection some day.

You dare make fun of one of the greatest games of all-time? Second only to Super Metroid, I might add.

I'm at 66 Gamecube games and I'm pretty much done too. There are a couple games I'll probably add to the collection sooner or later, and after that, any Gamecube pickups will be whatever I saw on the cheap that was too good of a deal to pass up, so I may hit 70 someday.

Rog I think theres some hella ADD going on if you have 150 titles and if you get a new one have to get rid of one to keep it even...

Luckily for me I was able to finish at 30. :)

Nice collection.

Psst.. that's OCD. I have to tell everyone that when they make the mistake....

Gotta go wash my hands now.

//waves in Silence's direction ;)

But 150 is a good number Rog, personally that's just over a quarter of the total set and probably will have all the must-have games in there :)

Towards the end I was making a list of games to look for and among the titles on that list I wound up not getting...

Bomberman Generation
Various Sonic games (Sonic Heroes being the only one I did get)
Ultimate Muscle
Worms 3D (I got Worms Blast instead)
Ribbit King
Chibi-Robo (I had it once but gave it as a gift in our last Secret Santa exchange)
Prince of Persia 2 & 3
Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters

Would you consider any of those must-have titles?

If you really want something to replace that PN 03 with, I'd go with Chibi-Robo or Sonic Adventure DX (if you have a Dreamcast, stick to that version of Sonic Adventure 2 - the GCN version was somewhat of a weak port).

Also, if you're up for posting it, I'd love to see your full list of Gamecube games.

I have most of the GC must-haves. There are still a few Mario games to get. The new Zelda will probably be the last one for me. Still waiting for a price drop... Yikes!

Ribbit King is a lot of fun actually, and good if you have a few people over to play with you. Hitting frogs as a golf ball? Yeah, weird but cool idea.

The wife loved Chibi Robo and played it consistantly until the end.

If you want to add more titles, but don't want to get rid of the ones you have... ditch some that were multiplatform and get them for another system.

For example, those Prince of Persia games, the Simpsons games, and Tony Hawk. Just get 'em for the PS2 or XBox if you have one. :)

That's a pretty good collection. I only have six GC games. I'd have more but most of the local Gamestops got rid of their good stock recently. -_-

Since I did the GameCube stuff, I decided to go over my Super Nintendo games as some of them needed to be put away. It turns out I have exactly 200 of those...I did have two copies of one game (Super R-Type) and am not sure how that happened. I'm not including the extra copy among my count of 200. I think I also have around 200 PS1 games but may have to do some searching to find all of those.

Cool Rog, I know what it feels like to be satisfied and "done" with a collection, it's a great feeling and as someone once said nicely, the great thing is having the luxury of playing any of them whenever you want. Show me a coin collector who dumps his old coins into a pop machine or a stamp collector who uses one of those stamps to mail out a letter. One of the things that is so great about this hobby and "collecting" for it.

I rarely post in Modern Gaming, but I saw this "Done with Collection" type post and can't help but pop in, as it brings me back fondly to the day I recall sitting back, looking at my Saturn/SNES collections and going "Hell yeah. I'm pretty much done."

Well, I just had a thought and checked...and I actually have 201 different SNES games. I forgot I still had a game plugged into my SNES deck...Mr. Do! I don't think I'll get rid of one just to have an even 200. I'll have to learn to live with a final total of 201 SNES games...

13. Bloodrayne

20. Dead To Rights

32. Gun

49. Madden NFL 07
50. Major League Baseball 2K6

69. MVP Baseball 2004
70 MVP Baseball 2005

74. NFL 2K3

127. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004

130. Tony Hawk?s Pro Skater 3
131. Tony Hawk?s Underground 2
132. True Crime: New York City
133. True Crime: Streets of L.A.

145. WWE Day of Reckoning

If you need to get rid of some the above is what I recommend, you can either get them from other consoles or they simply have no replay and/or collecting values (I can't believe you have no love for RPGs, else you can add a lot more).

My recommended additions include (my favorites but may not be yours, just in case you forget):

Gotcha Force (Gamedude and GQD have them now)
Rayman Arena
Capcom vs SNK 2 EO
Goblin and Commander
Viewtiful Joe 2
Viewtiful Joe Red Hot Rumble
Rave Masters
Kirby Air Ride
both Bombermans (Jetters and Generations)
Zoids
all 3 One-Piece titles
Resident Evil 2 (Gamedud has 4 new in stock)
both Zatch Belle titles (Mamodo Fury and Battles)

For me, I have slight above 100 sealed games along with many doubles at this point, my collecion binge has slowed down considerably after I got most of the good games from GC's library, the rest (of the decent titles I like) are either too expensive/too hard to get, or I simply can't get them new or at decent conditions, even with close proximity to Gamedue and GQD right now, I don't feel motivated to add more titles at this point, well, this saves me a lot of $$.

Chibi-Robo is a great game, you should definitely consider it. Otherwise, nothing on the list looks like a GC must-have IMO.

I'm only a few shy...

Animal Crossing (yeah, waited on the origingal too long, don't want Player's Choice)
Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix
Madden 08
Mario Power Tennis (didn't want the "Best Seller" version)

...and the Game Boy Player, and a few games I only have Player's Choice/Best Seller versions but want originals, and a few Interactive Kiosk Discs too.

My biggest problem is that I've been trying to buy them all new, and for the most part, not to spend over $20 (unless they have extra hardware). I've done okay, but left a couple stumpers there.

Another recommendation for Chibi-Robo. Ribbit King is a fun, cutesy game, but I think it is more of an acquired taste.

Two more games you may want to consider (if you haven't already ruled them out) are Killer 7 (a 'love it or hate it' game - I personally thought it was great) and Cubivore. I also liked Samurai Jack: The Shadow of Aku, but I seem to be in the minority on that one. :)
