Is the version of Metal Slug 1 on this compilation any better than it is on the Metal Slug Anthology? If it's got less laggy controls, I'll buy this in a heartbeat.

well the only thing that is better is that unlike MSA, the Metal Slug in SNK Arcade Classics is a lot much fairer since you get 5 lives unlike MSA's version which only gives you 2 lives. other than that, nothing much can be said.

I love playing Neo Turf Masters and Baseball Stars 2. Top Hunter is also pretty fun. It's a great compilation for $30. A no-brainer in my opinion. The PSP is slowly getting as much playtime as my DS.

I popped this thing back on my PS2 today and I have found that:
Samurai Shodown - plays at 100% speed. I think it slowed down once or twice.
Neo Turf Masters - looks to be 100% playable with no speed issues.
Super Sidekicks 3 - Plays at full speed but at half the framerate. Sometimes the background noise or music lag, but is otherwise fine.
Top Hunter: Roddy and Cathy - *sighs* Plays at full speed -except- when you go into a bonus area. The screen does this fade-in/out effect that slows down the emulation to a crawl. It literally took me A MINUTE for the screen to fade out... and then to fade in.
I still think the emulation on some titles sucks balls, but those four aren't that bad.

So if I had to pick the PS2 or PSP version, from what I understand the PSP version is better - correct?

From a collector's point of view, it seems that the PS2 version is harder to find than the PSP version. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't print very many.
The PSP version seems plentiful at Gamestop and Wal-Mart right now. Also, the PS2 version is cheaper. I'd wait for the PSP version's price to come down to $20 before I purchase it.

The retail price is $15.
xfrumx:
Possibly, but a lot of these titles are already available via the Virtual Console, so they're in no hurry to release a compilation when they can sell you one of these games for ten bucks a pop.

Hmm I wonder if I should get the ps2 version. I am not sure w/ the bad emulation.

To be honest with you guys...I know this is a broken record but these games really don't compare to the real deal. All-in-all the games are the same but the graphics, sound and controlls are just "off". I have some of the games on the Neo and can say the differencesare pretty stark.
Metal Slug really does suffer from crap controls. I have a Playstation to Neo Geo controller adapter and the actual Neo version of Slug + the PS1 controller is amazing.
With that said...the price is amazing though...

Metal Slug's controls seem really...off compared to MS in the Anthology collection.
The slowdown is getting to me in a few of the games, as well as some of the controls (like Shock Troopers)...maybe I'm just too used to having my firing change direction with the movement of my character/ship/etc.

Has anyone heard details about the Wii version of this game?
EB has it on their website (http://www.ebgames.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=71934&affid=2500&WT.mc_id=072208eb).
Price is $29.99 - seems a little high.
