N64 worked fine until I used a gameshark in it and powered it up. After powering it up, it turned itself off with the power switch still on the "on" position. Took the gameshark out and attempted to power it on again, however it would not. After a while of waiting I tried again. It would power on, but no picture or sound comes from it. I've tried different a/v cables and different inputs. Any ideas?

Thanks!!!

Happened to a friend of mine once. The gameshark actually melted something in his N64. I really would steer away from the gameshark in the future and most likely you will need a new N64.

Make sure your television switch is in the "ON" position. Then make sure your television is plugged in.

In all seriousness, I haven't heard of this problem yet. I've used a couple of different game sharks, and have never had any problems. Check your expansion pack, and maybe try and replace it with the original jumper pack. Or try and clean your games. I remember that a few of my N64 gams wouldn't work because they were so damn dirty- so I finally took them apart and cleaned them. I'm sure you've already checked these things though... but here they are just in case you had a "blonde moment."

It seems that this could be a few things. First, it is possible that something shorted, if you open the unit you might be able to see a burned component. Third is the the entire tri-bundle connector (the gray block with the red, white and, yellow output wires) is loose/faulty. Feel free to PM me with any questions as I am experienced in working on NES/SNES/N64 among other consoles.

Regards,

Brian

ROFL Yeah, I was going to read the trouble shooting tips, but I'd figure that would be what it said :)

Did that too. Everything worked before my 64 did what described B4. So yeah, I did try to clean them anyway.

But oh, well. I'll try changing jumper packs and looking inside and see what happens.

Thanks for all of the help guys (and gals if any)!

Tried switching the expansion pak. Nothing. No can take apart. I don't have the right tools to do that. So for now I'm going to assume that she's dead. RIP N64.
