I bought an Arkanoid today (DK3 conversion). Plays great but I have the following issues:

-The volume is extremely loud and I can't find a volume knob anywhere. There are a few knobs on the monitor but I am afraid of them.

-The screen is wavy. It's like a flag gently unfurling in the breeze. It's not so pronounced it interferes with gameplay, but it's close. Any suggestion short of installing a "cap kit". Please don't tell me I need a "cap kit". I'm afraid of that!

-The marquee doesn't light up, so I took the marquee off and all that's there is an empty space and two copper wires. I assumed there would be some kind of housing in there for a fluorescent bulb.

Check on the main pcb board. There should be a volume pot somewhere on the board. It might be something that you turn with a screwdriver, or by hand. I checked klov and read the instructions for the game, and it makes one think that there is indeed a volume pot on the board.

Sometimes this is caused by a misadjusted B+ voltage. If you're afraid of a cap kit... well.. I dunno if you want to mess with this ;)

Killersquirrel is right -there's a volume pot on the game pcb. It should be a little white knob (the only one on the board).

Got it. My family and neighbors thank you.

OK, phase II....the cab is DK 3 and pretty beat up looking. I think a fresh coat of paint would work wonders. Questions:

-is it any different from painting, say, a wall? A coat of primer and two coats of blue paint? Sound good?

-it has those horrendous "Romstar" stickers on the side. Any suggestions for removal?

Just peel off the decals, if you don't want them. Usually they'll come right off without leaving any glue behind. Some folks suggest using a heat gun. In my experience, I've never really needed to. (A hair dryer works about the same, don't run out and specifically BUY a heat gun for this project).

As far as paint goes, usually you'll want to take off the moldings (that way you don't paint them as well), and rough up the sides somewhat before painting. Latex is a bad idea in that once it starts to peel, you can peel off the whole thing. I normally use an oil-based enamel. Has a high gloss, and takes quite the beating without looking really beat up. Only downside is that it takes at least 24-48 hours to dry.

IMO, though, I don't know about plain old blue. I mean, I like blue and all, but maybe go nuts with the airbrush equipment? (You *DO* have airbrush equipment, right? I mean, doesn't everyone? :)

Hope this helps you out some

I think stonic did my Donkey Kong Cab in several coats of glossy light blue paint. He'd be the one to ask, as our cabs are very similar.
