Lens cleaning. I know what not to do..but..

So I have seen other threads here that say not to use the CD Lens Cleaner disc but I cant seem to find a thread that says how to properly do it. I have a 3DO and a X'eye that needs a good cleaning and I want to make sure I don't mess up the lens. Any pointers?

Should I just stick with the universal CD cleaners? I just don't want to ruin these units. Any information would be appreciated.

In my experience, lens cleaning discs don't do much.

Cotton swab, damp (not dripping) with alcohol. Gently rub the lens. Let dry. Done!
