I don't have access to the forum for this kind of question but, I just got my sealed Chrono Trigger in the mail, but it looks like it was re-sealed.
There is still a seam on three sides of the spine on the box, but when I move the box around, the contents slide a little from one end to another, about an inch. Also, there are two small pink stickers underneath the plastic which say "RPG" and "1 player" finally, the cardboard is a worn down a little from some of the edges under the plastic.
Do these things all mean it was re-sealed and not factory sealed?
Does it have any value or should I just not bother holding onto it as a collectors item?
I didn't spend much on it so it's not a big deal but now I probably won't be able to sell it for a thousand lol

Can you get some pictures? The fact that there are pink stickers underneath, is a little unsettling. It shouldn`t be loose in the cellophane either. Safe bet to steer clear of this seller for future purchases.

thats a tough call, sounds to me like it might be a re-seal. The stickers is what gets me. I dont recall any being on the original box. Im not for certain though.

Sounds like rental stickers to me.

LOL
Yes, those are indeed rental stickers...that is not a factory seal, sorry. Not even close.

So should I open it and not worry about value considering it's a re-seal? Or does it still have some higher value than an open version of Chrono Trigger... even though it has stickers and isn't in mint condition.

I don't think the plastic wrap is going to help any considering there are condition issues underneath. I would open it up and try to restore it as best as you can, without doing any additional damage.

If games were worth more wrapped in plastic after opening we'd all invest in some cling wrap stock. Go ahead and enjoy your game. BTW. How much did you pay for it?

Yeah the seal is only important if it's factory seal, not re-seal, so I'll just open it. I paid $90, it was a gamble in case it was factory sealed it would be worth over 10 X as much, but now it is actually less

More important who is the seller?
ADG566

The seller was some dude off craigslist, who was going off to the army so he was selling all his games, in addition to Chrono I also got mega man X and mario RPG though sealed Chrono was my aim due to its value, but I guess this dude wasn't a sucker after all

since its definatly not a sealedl i'd open it to make sure you got the right game and not a copy of madden 92 in the box, that box looks really rough and appears to have been a previous rental.
and hey if it is the right game and complete 90$ is about market value so you didn't get tooo ripped off in the end.

Just opened the game and it doesn't even have the maps or nintendo documents lol just a beat up manual and the game, o well, better than nothing, I'll have to buy the maps separate and make it complete

Was he selling it as "sealed"?
ADG566
01-22-2008, 05:43 PM
Yeah he didn't say factory sealed just regular sealed
I didn't want to inquire too much about it in case it was factory sealed because I didn't want him to research the value and see he was underselling by a ton. So it was a risk but one that didn't pay off

This isn't even a close call. Did he send you pictures before you bought it? The worn box should have been a clue even if the stickers weren't. The only box wear I have ever seen a factory sealed game have is occasionally at the very tips of the corners of the box.

look at it on the bright side, you got a really decent game thats fun to play and has a semi decent resell value, you lost a little money but at least you have the game and it will most likely go up in value over the years :-)

Ah, that's too bad. You would have had a great find if it was sealed. But, like others said, at least you got a great game, and you did alright on price. I think if he was really trying to scam you he would have put a junk cart in there, so it sounds like an honest error to me. It's kind of weird that he priced it that high though, only a collector would know to charge that much. I guess it IS kinda iffy after all. Any way you can get some of your money back from the guy? Did you do a local pick-up, or paypal? Do you have big muscles?

Maybe the Craig's List guy bought it sealed like that and never opened it, so he listed it as sealed.

I agree that it's not all bad, I mean I can think of plenty more issues that could of came up, such as opening it up to find nothing...or even worse...find a copy of ::shiver:: Revolution x o.O

Easily to tell its a reseal.. it doesn't have the original horizonal line on the back of the box that meets to the sides of the box.
