Hey guys!
Just wondering if this is an example of "Schill Bidding"? If it is, what can I do, as I am winning & would like a fair auction. Thanks for any advice!
John

I think it is where you use somebody elses account or a fake account to put bids on an item to drive up the price

He has been a member since June 2005 with no transactions & now he decides to bid? Seems odd, don`t you think?

Not a lot you can do. You can complain to eBay but since it's only a $20 auction there's probably not a lot that they will do for you.

I didn`t figure there would be much I can do. I did look at the sellers other auctions & couldn`t find any other items with that bidder`s Ebay ID. It may be nothing. Just seemed odd, oh well!

I always find this odd too. Why sign up and not use the service? That makes no sense.

That`s the only reason I was led to beleive it may be schill bidding. Someone made this 2nd account back in 2005 just for this purpose. It sits there until they decide to randomly use it. Even if they accidentally win. who is going to leave feedback? It`s the almost perfect scam!

Yea they are diabolical. Sit around 2 1/2 years waiting for that one chance to make an extra $5 on one game.
Evil pure evil I tells ya..... :)

When I feel funny about a auction I'd look elsewhere and stop bidding...I've been shilled before.....Shit if I felt like I've been shilled I'd stick it back to them and retract my bids..
I don't like bidding on items from big ebay sellers like that since another neg seems to be nothing to them..(I don't want to be the person that doesn't get my shit)

It is definitely not shill bidding. Look at his auctions he has bid on

He obviously just wants drag racing games for the xbox and has no idea how ebay's bidding system works (IE, he seems to have gotten in a mini bidding war with you, then realized, hey, I do not want the game THIS much).
Shill bidding is quite rare on ebay as they have a whole team of people to prevent it from happening.

yeah, I looked at his many other auctions & realized if it was, it why would he have picked that? I also did try to retract my bid, but it was within 12 hours of the auction end. Thanks for all your input guys, but I won it anyways!

I have noticed a number of zero feedback bidders who never seem to win anything, but always just bid on one genre of game or even one specific game on a particular platform. I was running an auction last week and had someone like that keep bidding and then just stop. I was worried that the other bidders would think I was schill bidding, but it worked out ok.

trust me.
someone with 166 000 positive feedbacks won't bother shill bidding on a 20 bucks auction :)

Not exactly. It takes quite a few times before they figure out you are shill bidding. Anyone can get away with it atleast once or twice. I know they have teams of people that look for it, but no team is big enough to cover tens of thousands of auctions everyday. Thats just not possible. So some people do get away with it, especially in the beginning.

This.
Wholesale dealers want to move items as quickly as possible with as little time devoted to each individual item as possible. It's beyond stupid to risk holding an item for more time than absolutely necessary for a relatively minor payoff. Time and moving items out the door are more important factors than individual price, unless you're selling very high-priced items, which a common XBOX game is not.
I've been falsely accused of shilling my items in the past, so unsubstantiated shill bidding witch hunts piss me off.

I was selling an item for someone once and they kept shill bidding on it to drive the price up. I got mad at them and told them that if they won the auction then I was going to make them pay me for it. Luckily they stopped and the final price went well above their bids so I didn't have to do anything about it.

I've had people place rediculous bids on something that I'm bidding on then retract them. After they do it, they place a bid right under my max bid so they can raise the price. I've reported them before and e-bay has cancelled the auctions.

In some form or another shill bidding will always exist unfortunately.
