Which flavor of Zelda you prefer?

I finally went with Link's Awakening. (Though Majora's Mask was bloody close) What finally tipped the scales for me was the hardware. Putting a game as detailed and as rich as Link's Awakening on the Gameboy was nothing short of jaw-dropping. At least for me.

Toss up between Zelda 1, Zelda 3 and OoT for me actually.

You forgot Oracle of Ages/Seasons again! I suppose you haven't played either of these fine Capcom-made games?

also forgot the cdi ones, but i doubt anybody would have picked them....
To tell ya the truth, I never played LTTP or MM. I do love the first Zelda for the NES. The first game where you can have more then one save file. ;D
OOT came in a close second,.

You also forgot Game & Watch Zelda btw ;)
With the exception of the cdi titles I've played them all, multiple times. And am in fact playing Zelda oracle of Ages/Seasons again. (before I had played ages -> seasons, and now I'm doing seasons -> ages). I have to say though that my favorite and overall best title is the SNES version. There is just something about the music, the overall look etc. that make it stand out.
The first Gameboy Zelda I think comes a close 2nd.
Ages/Seasons is ok, but I don't know... there's some magic quality missing it seems. In a tossup I think I'd prefer NES Zelda 2 over these!
And of course we can't discount the original Zelda on NES with it's TWO great quests.
But my vote goes to SNES Zelda.

Link to the Past is my favourite game of all time, so it easily gets my vote for favourite of the Zelda games.
Second would be Majora's Mask I think.
EDIT: Wow is this a blast from the past. Anyway, I've since replayed Ocarina of Time and it definitely gets my second place vote over Majora's Mask. I was enthralled with MM for awhile because of it's unique 3 day concept.

I also decided to go with Link to The Past although I was hoping the Oracle games would be an option. I think the Oracle games should get some rcognition eventhough they aren't your basic Zelda story games, but it introduces some neat features. The fact that the two games can be linked together for an even bigger quest is awesome I think.

For me it's probably:
Link to the Past
OoT
Zelda 1
Never played MM...reminds me too much of Groundhog day.

I liked Zelda 3 as well. Zelda DX and the 2 Oracle games for GBC are in a close second.
I also liked Zelda MM mainly because the 3D world is full of things to do. Zelda Ocarina of Time is just a little bland.

Link to the Past gets my vote. The color and the graphics still stand out in my mind. Plus, I really like the way the story unfolds, as do the characters.

For me it was a tossup between Zelda 1 and LTTP, but 1 edged LTTP out by *that* much. I just like 1 a little better.

The Zelda series is a bit like The Beatles...
Ocarina of Time is the best Zelda game. (And "Stawberry Fields" is the best Beatles' song.)

I don't pretend to be a Zelda buff, although I do enjoy the series. I've played most of them (The first, Adventure of Link, Link to the Past, OOT, and am in the middle of Majora's Mask now).
BUT, isn't the whole "link to the past" thing something that Nintendo of America did. The JPN title being Kamigami no Triforce eludes to nothing of time travel. I've never played the JPN version, although I'm tempted to pick it up for my GBA.

Hey! Who buried Paul?
:P
@ GP: Yeah, and it seems to me that there really isn't anything about time travel in the game itself. Looks to me like NOA just wanted to push the game's "mythical" setting. If nothing else, it makes for one snazzy logo.
Personally, I like Ocarina of Time best. Gotta grab that disc sometime :)

I like them all but I'm going with the original.

My vote goes to Link's Awakening. I only had enough interest in LttP to finish it once, but I've gone through Link's Awakening quite a few times. The original is great, 2 is...2, OoT was alright (lost interest in the 2nd dungeon) and never played MM.

I voted for A Link to the Past. I also happen to like Wind Waker an awful lot, even more so than either N64 Zelda title. Why isn't that a choice?

I know I'm in the vast minority, and I'm probably gonna get insults but I actually think Zelda II is my favorite Zelda. It doesn't play at all like the other Zeldas, that's true, but that doesn't automatically make it a terrible game. Besides back when Zelda II was made, it wasn't unusual for a sequel of a game to take a different direction. Look at Castlevania II for example.
I like Zelda II mainly cause I think fighting enemies in it is fun. The game is farily fast paced, some of the enemies require you to use a little bit of strategy to defeat, and the game is pretty challenging. The palaces were also fun to explore. It's too bad Zelda fans seem convinced this game is spawned from Hell itself. I get the feeling if this game wasn't part of the Zelda series, it wouldn't be bashed nearly as much.
My second favorite is a toss up between Zelda 3 and the first game. I think Link to the Past edges it out by just a little bit. And after that the Oracle games.
I think the title "link to the past" was eluding to the fact that the game was a prequel and took place before Zelda 1 and 2. The Zelda games don't have a consistent timeline at all anymore, so this doesn't matter.

Voted Alttp, this is how Zelda must be (imho). Good topdown gameplay, i don't really like the 3D games altough i had fun with TWW. Alttp shows what makes the SNES such a good console imho, tons off gameplay, good graphics and sound.
Looking forward to the four swords plus now, one of its games is in the same style as Alttp and i liked playing four swords on the GBA.

In my list of favorite games, Zelda would be absent. All forms. I just don't like the games that much. I got WW just for the free preorder... but that game was pretty good. The thing I liked the most about that game... was the graphic engine. I don't care if you disagree, I think that WW has some of the best graphics EVER in a game. Occasionally I found myself, when on the main island (the one where the auction house was), stopping playing and just admiring the graphics. It was like a bright and colorful cartoon that had no differentiation between dimensions. No characters had black outlines--and that is the factor that really makes cell-shading look fake. So, in conclusion, WW's graphics are much better than any other Zelda's.

The very first game still holds a place in my heart. I must have been playing LoZ since I was... what, three? Yeah... I probably sucked as a toddler, but I believe that I beat both quests all in one day... or maybe in two days, I forget. Anyway, good times. Runner-up would go to ALttP. Once again, when I was younger, I couldn't get my way around the damned Ice Palace. That's changed. I love the entire series... probably one of the only series where I managed to beat every single game.
Except for the CD-I titles, but that goes without saying. :P

I've only played the 2 NES Zeldas and The Legend of Link's Awakening...and my favorite is definately Link's Awakening. I like the 1st NES Zelda...I can get all the way to the final palace, but I can't beat it. And I'm absolutely horrible at Zelda 2, but I don't hate it. I love Link's Awakening because it's much easier than the others. I've actually beaten it several times, and there's just so many little details that go into it that make it fun. I just wish I could still fully enjoy it...I hate using my old Game Boy because the sound doesn't work anymore, and I get kinda annoyed using old GB carts in my GBA SP, they just stick out too far for my liking.
But yea...Link's Awakening :)
