Alright I'll admit it, I'm fucking stuck. I'm to the point where I have to fight Si Ma Yi... in that town... with the Chinese name. >.>

Anyway the town isn't important but I have to walk there from Jian Sa and it's a pretty good trek through another town and a fort with a long stretch without an inn to heal at. That's annoying right there. But when I face Si Ma Yi he casts some bullshit thunder magic at me that warps me right back to the Inn at Jian Sa, ARGH!!!!

What the game wants me to do is input a code at before he casts the spell and it's suppose to negate his magic. The code is: Up, up, down, down, left, right, up, down. Only thing is I can't get it to work. I've walked back to this town no less than ten times, leveled up a fair bit in the process, but he keeps warping me away. It's very... very frustrating. I even resorted to stocking up on smoke pots to stop the random battles but I guess I overdosed because last time I tried it it posioned my party permanently. Which is really odd because the game doesn't even have poison effects. I think it was a glitch. Basically every step I took flashed the screen red and I took a small amount of damage. The walk from Jian Sa to Si Ma Yi nearly killed me even at 29,000 Hp/troops. Nothing could cure me either, I had to shut the game off without saving.

Savestate isn't even an option because I'm playing the cart. The guy who owned it before me beat it though because his characters are past me. I could just play his game... but that seems like cheating. I'd like to beat it on my own. Am I doing something wrong? I can't find any information online. Other than FAQs stating to do exactly what I'm doing. >.<

Fucking game with it's bullshit code and confusing Chinese names!!!!!!

I remember exactly what part you're at. It's a good game, but this part is easy to mess up. I don't think there's any special trick to it. You just have to do it accurately and quickly. You only have a few seconds to get it entered.

you ran out of food, if you have no food you take damage with every step

YOU'RE STARVING YOUR TROOPS YOU RAT BASTARD!

to be able to negate the thunder even if you know the code you HAVE to talk to guan yu at a certain castle (chang sha maybe? its been forever) and he'll give you the code ,but you can't put the code in even if you know it without talkign to him.

talk to the king after you get nuked and he'll tell you that guan yu wants to talk to you (i think you might have to talk to zhange fie as well)

hope that helps

AND FEED YOUR DAMNED TROOPS ;-)

I've talked to Guan Yu... and... hmm... you know I've been so used to having tons of food after defeating general after general I forgot that you could starve. Opps. Still doesn't help me with the thunder problem at all. :P

are you putting in the code after he's done talking? (after the little arrow is gone from the text window?)

you don't have to be super fast just very acurate.

Yes.

However I am a retard. I am really really really retarded.

I umm... don't know my left from right. While I know the code clearly said left, right... I was actually imputing right, left.

I was stuck on this for a week. Reeealy... retarded.

glad you figured it out at least, awesome game..but be prepared to pull your hair out when fighting the last few battles, if you need advice just ask, the final boss in that game cost me a window (i swear it was unintentional)

Damn!

So, did you throw the toaster through the window or just forget to open it before attempting suicide?
or throw the toaster through the window then attempt suicide..

The thing that drives me crazy about all of the major battles towards the end of the game is that spell that recharges an enemy army back to full strength. I mean, you spend like ten minutes whittling a guy down, and then whoops, all for nothing.

I was messing around with DoaE 2 last night (fan translated), it's basically the same as the first, but more historically accurate and events happen differently (you also start the game post-Yellow Scarves). Also, no having to feed troops. Yay. Only issue i had was the small graphic breakup during battles after using the patch, but I look past it.

I also discovered these tidbits: there are fan-translated patches which change the game to the perspective of the Wei and Wu kingdoms, only in Japanese though.
