I just bought a Wii, i was going to put it up on ebay but my wife wants to keep it. i keep telling her that i only see non-gamers play the wii sports for a month or two and then it sits and collects dust. is there any other games that she would be interested in?

Um, Super Mario Galaxy? Coming in March (or April, or August) will be Super Smash Brothers Brawl. And Zelda: Twilight Princess? You can always download some classic games too.

Yea, my wife isnt really into video games like that, she like the simple stuff. anything like wii sports, she wont get into anything like mario galaxy or zelda.

I know there are a bunch of downloadable puzzle games on the virtual console. Also I hear Endless Ocean is a simple game of exploration although I haven't tried it, that seems to be something to look into.

There are several collections of mini-games out there. Check out Carnival Games, WarioWare and Rayman Raving Rabbids 1 and 2, she'll probably get a kick out of those. She may also be interested in Cooking Mama and the two Trauma Center games.

My girlfriend is a non-gamer, but shes nuts for cooking mama on the DS. I'm guessing if the Wii version is anything like the ds game, then she may enjoy it!

Its not to bad. I've thought about and nearly sold it three times since I bought it six months ago but something always gets my attention. Virtual console is great and I've played about 6 good games on it. I'm looking at selling it this week but am not sure cause I kinda wanna get no more heroes and smash bros.....

Never had a copy of wii sports but I may buy wii fit so I can get off my treadmill a bit :)

For me it took about 10 hours. I'm sure I would pick it up again now and then, but if I were to have bought one, 10 hours would have been the point where I said "crap".

I say give it two weeks. Wii Sports is surprisingly fun, but then, it's all gimmicky from there...

Make sure you read the two lists in this thread: Top 30 and Bottom 30 Wii Games (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=109135) That way, you know which Wii games are great and which are complete wastes of money.

Some popular ones you both might like are:

Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games
Rayman Raving Rabbids
Super Mario Galaxy
Wario Ware: Smooth Moves
Wii Play

Also try Endless Ocean and Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure. They're only $30 each. Wii Fit is coming in a few months, too. That's going to be huge.

i keep telling her that i only see non-gamers play the wii sports for a month or two and then it sits and collects dust.

Actually, according to this article on IGN.com (http://wii.ign.com/articles/847/847472p1.html), the average Wii owner currently owns about five games, not just Wii Sports.

My Wii collects dust for the most part, but every now and then something cool comes along and it's nice to have a system handy.

I'll throw in another nod for Zack and Wiki. It is a great game for the price.

another reason for my concern is that my brother who is a freshmen is high school got one for christmas last year, loved it for about a month and a half and then stop playing it all together. my other brother got a 360 at the same time and now he plays that now, and doesnt touch the wii. the virtual console is a great idea, but for me, it is useless, i have over 20 systems and 2000 retro games...

There was a dip of a few months last year when the Wii releases were slow, but honestly, there have been quality games from Nov. 06 to Feb. 07 and again from July 07 to present.

Launch titles that were good:
ExciteTruck (underappreciated gem)
Zelda
Wii Sports
Trauma Center: Second Opinion
Rayman Raving Rabbids
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz (not the minigames, though)
WarioWare: Smooth Moves

Summer to present picks:
Super Mario Galaxy
Metroid Prime 3
Super Mario Strikers: Charged
Endless Ocean
No More Heroes
Zack and Wiki
Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition (astonishing)
Battalion Wars 2
Fire Emblem

Too easy to dismiss this system. "Hardcore gamers" that do simply don't know what's available for it or haven't played it. This is a great lineup -- somewhat obscured by the tidal wave of licensed crap that fills the Wii game bins. Just do a bit of research, and the game library is impressive.

Wario Ware for sure, Big Brain Academy, Marble Mania and DDR would be good to. I don't think it would get boring fast, especially with the many mini game games that keep coming.

Either you "get" Wii or you don't. I think a lot of gamers are just outright resistant to enjoying it for what it is and that's a shame. Then there are those who have convinced them self that it sucks because they can't go out and buy one in one shot. The gamers who gave it a fair shot and find they don't like it, I can respect, because at least it's an informed opinion. :)

I've owned mine for close to a year now and I haven't been this happy with a game system since the Genesis. You have to see how the non-gamers react to the Wii in person. It's simply incredible and the enthusiasm is definitely contagious. One of the favorite games around the house here is Tiger Woods 07. My wife bought it and I kind of chastised her for spending OUR money on an EA sports game. It was very near blasphemy. However, this was my true "get it" moment. I enjoyed the game very much and that was both surprising and unsettling to me. I usually detest sports titles unless there is some arcade-like quality or some other notable quirk to it (NBA Jam and Baseball Stars come to mind). Being I have such strong opinion (mostly negative) regarding sports games that's some powerful stuff. The interface completes the experience and makes what would otherwise be a dull game (akin to pulling teeth) into genuine fun. Now wtf is wrong with that? To think I almost completely dismissed it and I demanded to return it for a "good" game more than once before it was opened and played.

What makes one "get" the Wii is going to vary from person to person. So, I'd suggest renting a wide variety of games and don't write off a genre you usually are not into. Then, after your noncommittal sampling you'll be better off in your selections on games to buy and you'll know whether or not the Wii is your kind of game system.

I have lots of classic consoles and games, but I love the virtual console. I love being able to play NES games without the blinking red light. I love not having to hook up the Genesis or the N64. Of all my systems pretty much the Wii, the PS2, and the Colecovision see regular action.

I wonder if there will ever be more systems on the VC? I'd love to see the Colecovision, the SMS, maybe even the Intellivision or something. In fact, I'm thinking of downloading Burgertime tonight...is that on the VC yet?

How true! My girlfriend, who hasn't played video games in about 15 years, is enjoying Endless Ocean, Zack & Wiki, and Mercury Meltdown Revolution with me. We're not shooting Nazi's in the face or stealing cars, but we're having fun solving puzzles and exploring. We also like how a bunch of good Wii games only cost $20 or $30 each.

I prefer arcade-style sports games, too. Have you tried either of the Super Swing Golf games? I wonder how they compare to the Tiger Woods games.

I've played Link's Crossbow Training and Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles. They're both good. Ghost Squad is supposed to be good, too. The Wii Zapper, which comes with Link's Crossbow Training, is only $20. Ghost Squad is $30.

You're in luck. The Sega Master System should be coming in February.

"In addition to games that were originally released for the Master System, Sega's Virtual Console distribution will also include titles for the Mark III and Game Gear.

Master System titles will begin appearing on the Japanese Virtual Console some time in February with Fist of the North Star (600 Wii points) and Fantasy Zone (500 Wii points). Sega also plans on distributing Master System titles in Europe and North America."

I have been a gamer all my life and I bought a Wii this Nov and I am still having fun with it. I even still play Wii Sports every week. I have yet to crack open Zelda & SMG and I want to get No More heroes. Also the Wii is the one system that I can play when friends/family come over.

Just my 2c.

I purchased mine on Launch day. I'll sheepishly admit I do not play it that much, but it does get quite a bit of use. I find the games I have purchased very enjoyable and when I get friends together it's more than a blast! You just have to give it a chance to prove itself. I know many other friends who also own one and theirs gets more hours upon hours of use.

I prefer arcade-style sports games, too. Have you tried either of the Super Swing Golf games? I wonder how they compare to the Tiger Woods games.

I've played the first Super Swing and was rather disappointed with it. The swing mechanic wasn't up to snuff. There is no relation to an actual golf swing. You can use an over hand chop motion to play and get the same results (sometimes better) and the stroke power is easier to pinpoint and dial in to the exact percentage you need. It lacks the immersion and organic play of Tiger Woods. The only aspect it has over Tiger is the item collection and character models, but that's like saying a live action film is lesser because it's not animated. If they change the stroke system and put online play in the next Pangya it just might have a shot at edging out Tiger.

Edit:

We Love Golf! is due out later this year. It's being developed by Camelot, the makers of Hot Shots Golf and Mario Golf, and published by Capcom. Chin-Li will be a selectable character. It should be fun!

I bought it, played for a month, then quit playing for like 10 months. I tried ebaying it, it fell through, so I kept it and hooked it up in the living room. Big difference. More room to play, and I can sit on the easy chair and play from across the room. I like the Check Mii out channel, and the everybody votes channel. Smash Bros is coming soon, and there's always VC games to DL. Did I mention Ghost Squad is awesome on it?

We Love Golf will also have Apollo Justice and Pearl Fey as playable characters... (they should have included Phoenix Wright... grumble grumble)

I've had my Wii since late July, and I really like it.

Have Wii Sports, Wii Play, Zack & Wiki, Ghost Squad w/ Wii Zapper, Mortal Kombat (love the character creation!), Guilty Gear XX Accent Core w/ Fighting Stick Wii, Metal Slug, Kororinpa (OMGTEHRARZ! ;) ), Warioware, and Nights.

Will have Endless Ocean (in about a week), No More Heroes (sometime soon), and Smash Bros (day 1 baby! ...work schedule permitting of course).

My Wii gets virtually no play time at all. For me the system just doesn't compare to my 360 at all. Hell, I even play my PS2, Dreamcast and original Xbox more. It's a nice change of pace system but that's it IMO. I think it's because it really is just a completely vanilla system with a unique controller. When the thrill of using a new controller wears off it's just not that interesting anymore. When I have people over I'll fire it up and try to interest them in some Wii sports, but otherwise it sits there unused...

I got mine like two weeks after launch date and I play it still to this day. Not as much as before but that's because my bro and I went Wii60 and we got a new comp (Orange Box is amazing!). LOL Once Super Smash Brothers Brawl and Mario Kart for the Wii come out...the system is gonna get even better with the whole online support for those games. I recently tried Link's Crossbow training and man that game is fun. Hopefully in the future, they release a sequel for Kid Icarus and many of those other Nintendo titles. Virtual Console is nice especially for people who couldn't afford a Neo-Geo or couldn't get some of the games available for the other systems. Like people said before, there are many great Wii titles...just gotta look around.

How fast it gets boring depends on how much you like the games. I got mine at launch and it still gets at least as much, if not more playtime than my 360. There are a bunch of must-buys (Zelda: TP, Metroid Prime 3, Zack & Wiki, etc) and a whole lot of good games (MoH Heroes 2, Mario Galaxy, RE: Umbrella Chronicles, Nights, etc). If you're a Resident Evil fan like me, RE: Umbrella Chronicles is a must-buy, it's awesome. If you don't already have a TG-16 (I sold mine long ago), the VC system is fantastic - there are a boatload of excellent TG-16 games cheaper than you can find elsewhere. Coming this year is Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros Brawl. No More Heroes is getting excellent reviews, and I've heard good word of mouth.

Obviously if you're into racing games or RPGs, it's probably not the best console for you. But its library is still solid and has a lot to offer... even if the console's gameplay potential hasn't been realized yet.

I bough mine on launch day. I have a 360 and PS3 as well. The Wii is the one that I play the most of the 3 by far. I have Zelda, Metroid 3, Mario Galaxy, Trauma Center, Battalion Wars, Super Monkey Ball, Wii Play, Sonic, Fire Emblem, Geometry Wars. I will soon get Endless Ocean, Super Paper Mario.

My 360 is mostly used for NHL 2k8, other than that I do not find any worth games in 360 (except Senke No Rondo and Forza2). My PS3 is mostly used for Blu ray playback and Everday Shooter.

So it's really case by case because for me even if I am an HD freak, I cannot find many games on 360 or PS3 that are worth it to me. All the FPS I play on my PC so this is a non factor for me.

I bought a deal on mine from a pawn shop, complete in box, except wii sports, with two remotes and nunchuks for $230 out the door. i got wii sports for like $5 from gamestop.

it got boring after maybe 5 hours of play. i ended up selling it about two weeks after I bought it for $300, a profit of $65 for something I didn't even like.

I'd give it 30 days, two weeks if all you are playing is Wii sports. I am not going to get into the backwards compatibility or VC, as I already have consoles that play those, and I don't need the Wii for that; however, if you don't have an easily acessible GCN or any of the VC consoles, then the Wii might have some added benefit to you.

As for the games, there are probably 5 games that might justify the purchase of a Wii, or playing it for more than 30 days. Of course they are all mostly 1st party Nintendo exclusives - Zelda: TP (although you can get the GCN version), Super Paper Mario, Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy and Zack & Wiki. After that, there are some "decent" games like MOH Heroes 2, but for the most part, the majority of the Wii's library of games consists of re-treads, tech demos or shovelware. Multiplatform games such as Splinter Cell, Far Cry, NFS: Carbon, Blazing Angels or Metal Slug Anthology are usually better on the other consoles. The party games (Rayman Raving Rabbids; Super Monkey Ball) are otherwise useless unless you can get a group of people together to play them. Don't get me wrong, they can be fun, but don't necessarily justify a $40-$50 purchase when they are mostly going to sit on the shelf until you have a party and show off your Wii (no pun intended).

If you are going to invest any time and money in the Wii library, I'd stick to the few 1st party games I mentioned above and some of the few unique games to the console - like MOH 2 Heroes and Trauma Center - and a party game.

Well I can see how my enthusiasm for the VC might have led you to believe that....but I'm having loads of fun with Super Mario Galaxy, Zelda Twilight, and I just picked up one I've been wanting awhile--Trauma Center Second Opinion. I love my PS2 and my XBox as well, but its kind of hard to explain how the Wii is just too fun for words. I was thinking it would be a warmed up Gamecube, but its really a lot more than that....

I don't understand how a few of you spent $250 on a Wii and don't even play it. Why did you bother buying it? It's like those people who spend a few hundred dollars on a guitar, play it once or twice, and then throw it in the closet and never touch it again. What's the point?

Why did you waste hundreds of dollars on something you don't use?
