I totaly forget the advertisment rules for this forum (too many forums ima part of) but this is just telling people how to get classic and somtimes newer games on a decent bargin. I do not work or have any conection to the store.

The Game-X-Change is a buy/sell video game store and goes from ps3 to nes and beyond. (depends on the store) its the only place i know in my area that i can buy nes games. i love ebay and all but it gets a bit expensive with shipping charges. i consider this one of my favorite places because the games are all cheap (nes range from $2-$5 mostly and a few $15 games) i purchased 6 nes games for $16 and they all work and are in the best condition possible besides new.

just letting any1 kno that game-x-change is a great place to buy vintage and save alot of cash

Yeah, Game X Change is awesome! They have some of the best warranties of any used game store in my area and most of the time on their older games, they usually have a "set price" bracket that they fall into. Most of their Genesis stuff usually goes for 2.95 or 4.95 and same with the Sega CD. In some instances the harder to find games will exceed their set price brackets but not by much.

Last year they honestly had a complete near mint copy of Snatcher for the Sega CD for 6.95... No joke. I almost had a heart attack and snagged it the second I saw it. I just feel sorry for the kid that traded it in... he probably got like 2 or 3 bucks for it when he could have sold it on Ebay for much MUCH more.

But I am by no means complaining ;)

They actually sell Sega CD games? *seethes with envy*

There is only one store in my area that sells SCD games. These tend to be multiple copies of Sylpheed, Jurassic Park, and Ecco, though I did get a copy of Lunar from them (first game). There's another store I know of, in Antioch (about an hour away) that actually does have a pretty good selection. I really want to save up a couple hundred dollars and just have a spree of some sort there (most likely of the shopping variety); the only time I went there, I made a special trip to pick up both versions of the Sega CD, and a couple games.

Then, of course, there's Game Dude, in North Hollywood. To anybody who hasn't experienced this store and happens to find themselves in LA: go there. It's awesome. The prices aren't terrible, either.

I cry because the one near me closed....seems they "lost their lease". More likely their business was drying up.

There were some things there that were overpriced (most of the games they considered RARE) but they had some of the cheapest imports ever.

The stories I have of going to that place.

We had one here until a few years ago.

Ours was bad assed. They had pre-NES games, and tons of them. It was he only place I've ever seen Channel F games in the wild.

They closed because one of their employees was shot and killed during a robbery. I still miss that place.

There are but I'm greedy so I want all the stores. Over here we have Game Crazy(though they are getting harder and harder to find) and one Play N Trade(I still haven't been there because it's atleast an hour away). But I also have import stores that are only here in Maryland that I get lots of ebay-esque stuff from without having to pay ebay prices:king:

I hope they migrate a bit further south my way and bring the good stuff. :) Then again, Tyler and Longview isn't THAT far away to completely write off a visit.

I got my import Saturn Adaptor (4-in-1) from the store here for like $15 simply because nobody ever really bought Saturn (or any Sega stuff) that much.

I took a bunch of famicom and MD imports (nothing of real worth) in and got like $100 worth of store credit for them and then blew half of that on a sealed copy of "Magic Knight Rayearth" for Saturn.

The place was just a blast to go to because you never knew what good stuff they had priced below what it was worth. I remember getting complete Master System games for like $3 and there were more than a few occasions where they had complete Intellivison game for the same price. I'm not an Intellivison person, but I did keep that complete copy of B-17 Bomber I found.

Been to the Bloomington, IL store, nice place. I was there at the same moment as a guy trading in his Sega CD "spares", I bought off him what the store wouldn't take. He also had some saturn imports they wouldn't take I bought off him (suchie pai in the wild? fuck yeah). cool that they let us do that in-store, too.

there are similar stores, with the same name but apparently are not associated as they are not on the map, in Madison, WI that are pretty nice too.

At one time there were 3 or 4 Game-X-Changes in Alabama - from Mobile to Birmingham. I got a lot of good stuff there and met a lot of cool people. Anybody know why the guy in the B'ham area closed all of his?

Yep. Exactly the same here. I mean except for the shooting of course. We had one in Mobile AL which is only 30-40 minutes west of me. That was such such an awesome store. I went by one day, there was a sign on the door saying they were remodeling, and they'd be back in a few weeks. When I came back, they turned it into a damned furniture store. Never heard anything about it, because no one seemed to give a rats ass except me.

The only store even remotely like that now is Game Trader (http://thegametrader.webpossystem.com/). They used to be really cool until they discovered eBay. Now everything is crazy over-priced. Like $12 for Super Mario/Duck Hunt kinda crazy.

In general game x change isn't worth even going to. With a few rare exceptions everything is far overpriced. I will agree with some of you on ok finds because if its not in the computer it goes in the bargain bin and the ones here always have buy 2 get one free on the nes games but its all common stuff that sales for 2 or 3 bucks with shipping on ebay. I know its all common cause nothing new ever comes in and I cleaned them out a few years ago on those lonely R5s in the common pile. They also come in nice when you "must" have something that day but overall theres no point in making a habit of going your much better off at a local flea market. I doubt they will charge $20 for that legend of zelda gold cart there. :deadhorse: Oh and by the way there is no reason for the warranty on most of the stuff you buy :confused:That 2600 Ice hockey you paid $5 for was made in 1981 (correct me if date is wrong) it is still going to play trust me. If it doesn't there's a better chance its your system. The same goes for well pretty much every thing else.

Any retro store will be hit or miss, you can't expect to come out with a great find all the time. If they don't have people trading in..then they won't have the items, and who knows, you can get there a moment to late.

The only store left in Buffalo (that i know of) is Game Craze. They are based out of Rochester and have master lists of inventory from all there stores. So if your looking for something another store has they will have it shipped in, in a few short days. Great selection too.

Still most people have good things to say about Game-x-Change, I just found out theres one by my friend in tulsa Oklahoma so i been sending her in to scout for me haha

How good is the trade in value on games

the value is average. u get more for store credit there than at game-stop or whatever u go to usually but the deductions for scratched games are more than most and they take off a little if u lost the game manual, but if ur games are not damaged much and u have the manual its a good place

I remember the one here was being really picky with some guy wanting to trade in his Nomad. I overheard him talking about Genesis stuff and followed him out to his car. He wanted to get rid of his kids old stuff bad. I ended up buying one of his Nomads and 3 games for like $20 (which is all I had). He just wanted to stuff gone and didn't care about the price...if I'd had more money I probably would have bought everything he had.

Oh well.

I usually stop in the Game X-Change close to my work about once a month. The selection has only dwindled in the past years.

There is a Vintage Stock close by as well that has a lot better selection at roughly the same prices. They just opened up two more stores close to my work, but in the wrong direction from home, so they moved a lot of their rare games that weren't selling to the other stores.

I used to work at a Game X-change heere in Arkansas. One thing that should be noted is that Game X-change is a franchise, so the individual owners make the decisions. What they pay for as a franchise is the name, access to some merchandise, and the pricing guides. Beyond that, each store pretty much sets its own rules. In my store, we followed the pricing guides pretty closely, but would raise the price on some games if we deemed them more "hard-to-find", per the region.

One problem we had, and which I see too often in some stores, is space taken up by used DVDs. At one point, we had more DVDs than PS2 games!

So, in the end, the quality of the store depends on the quality of the owner.

A store called US Games Open is one of the few places I buy games outside of Ebay. It isn't up to par as Digital Press, but its does have an array of working retro games and systems for a really cheap price.

I got a working Sega Saturn plus a game for $30, and 8 gamecube game, including factory sealed Resident Evil 4 :-D, for $40.

When I get enough cash for next time, I'm going to raid his PS2 collection! :wink 2:

well i stopped by a game stop the other day when I went out of town. I was the only one in there and was talking to the guy and telling him why I was in town. It amazed me that he didn't even know what a virtual boy was and the concept of cart games was seemed to perplex him

i went to the game-x-change site and thought "wow, that logo looks familiar somehow"...stupid me, game-x-change is the store i go to every time i go down to bloomington, IL (where i went to school and will be returning shortly)

however, that site did tip me off that there's one in springfield, it might be worth making a drive for.

their prices are not that great in illinois (most NES games are 5 or 6 bucks, and they do the standard gross overpricing of games like Metroid and Mario 3)...but they do usually have some bizarre game that you would rarely see otherwise.

That reminds me of two similar experiences at Gamestop/EB. One time I was in Gamestop and a lady asked the two cleraks at the register if they had Final Fantasy for the 360. She was quickly told Final Fantasy was never on the 360 and that it was a Sony only game. So I of course had to step in and tell them how stupid they were for not knowing this common knowledge while working at a game store. I'm not even an rpg/ff fan but something like that doesn't happen without notice.

Another time I was in EB right before I got my xbox live up and running. I asked the clerk if I could connect my xbox live if my internet went thru my laptop as opposed to a desk top. But he told me (in his most reassuring voice) that I needed to have a desk top computer to be able to play on xbox live. The next day the xbox live customer service phone rep assured me he was very wrong.

I know this is alitle off topic but you'd be amazed at the level of stupidity these video game store workers are at. And I can assure(theres that word again) you that the majority of people on this site know way more than your average video game store clerk.

I have been to both and I believe the one in Springfield is larger than the one in Bloomington. If you happen to be at either of these stores and see some Famicom/MD games that look like soccer/baseball/WW2 Koei games...thats part of the import collection I turned into the one that was here.

theres a similar franchise out there doing the same thing, play n trade, almost exactly the same thing.
we had a Game Exchange here but it was a mom n pop sort of establishment that was arround for a hella long time untill things took a dive, then they go poof. game crazy/hollywood video might get re-done, from what i have herd some one bought the company before the banks did anything about their inability to repay their loans but thats all hear-say too.

my game crazy does retro games still, theres one a little bit north (just south of salem) that JUST does older games, i got megaman 5 there, only place i have EVER seen it.
