View Full Version : Flimsy marquees

Well, maybe "flimsy" isn't the right word--they're sturdy, but flexible and bendy (not like the thick, hard plastic ones). I just got this (http://www.arcadeshock.com/items/a-s-specials-/king-of-fighters-2002-large-marquee-black-version-kof2k2blk-mqs-detail.htm) in the mail (top one), and it's that flimsy type. Were a lot of later-production marquees made this way for the Neo Geo, or is it simply because it's a test run? It's clearly meant as a marquee, and light shines through it like it's supposed to (I still installed it), but it's more susceptible to dings, so I find it hard to believe they would make these for actual arcade use.
If my description isn't too clear, this should help: it came in a smaller box, rolled up.
Is the white marquee the thick plastic, or more of the same?
Thanks

You're supposed to have a piece of clear plexiglass (or glass) that the paper you got sits in front of.
My Neo Geo cabinet has the marquee printed onto the plexiglass, but on my other cabinets you just slip the paper marquee (the thing you have there) behind a piece of glass.

Ah, I see. My other marquees have the marquee printed to the plexiglass, too, so I figured they were all like this. Thanks.

Quick question--is the plexiglass supposed to go in front, or behind? You said in front, but it makes more sense (to me) for it to be behind, to protect the marquee. Also, on my other marquees, the print is on the back, not the front.

Plexi goes in front of the marquee to protect it.
Most (if not all) marquee printed on plexi are printed (silk screened) on the back of the marquee, to avoid scrathes.

At first I assumed you were talking about a mini-marquee, but I see this is a full sized one, is it even possible to get these looking really nice? I assume it would need to be sandwiched between 2 sheets of plexi so you don't see any wrinkles or so the marquee doesn't roll at all...

They normally look good just behind the plexi. Just use a little tape to hold it in place and you're set.

We'll find out tomorrow. I stupidly misread the measuring tape--twice--and got 1/4" plexiglass instead of 1/8". My only excuse is 5 hours of sleep, then trying to rush to the hardware store before work...
It looks great flattened under the plexiglass on my floor, though...

Quick update: I got it all set up now. Here's a pic. It looks nice.
