Why does my PS3 not have the logo on its side?

I knew something was a little off when I purchased my PS3. Every PS3 I've ever seen had the logo on the side.

Mine doesn't.... What's with that?

Sounds to me you have a very well made Chinese bootleg, or it could simply be a misprint.

damn PS3 clones. I got a Yobo PS3. Got it on ebay, it only plays VCDs and games, and the controllers are infrared and crappy.

Here it is - the freak PS3.... As you can see, by my posters on the wall, it's got the gloss finish.. No logo. And yes, it's definitely Sony.

It's a 60gb model # CECHA01

EDIT - I bought it refurbished/used about 3 weeks ago, and it came with a normal PS3 box. And the 'do not remove or you will void your warranty' sticker is still there, on the side. I'm wondering if I got a display model, or something...

Wow...that's pretty bizarre.

Perhaps Sony is doing away with the logo from the top of units in the near future, or that's the shell type that they swap on for all refurbished units (so they're easily recognized in the wild/if they come back for further repairs).

thats definately strange. If it is a refurbished model, they could have spare covers for the system that didn't go through the part of manufacturing that prints the letters on top of it to save some money.

What else can they cut out to save money? I heard the power cords are going to be cut down to 2 feet, in order to save money.

I'd sit on it and see if any others show up. If not, and it is a manufacturing error you might be on to something. Considering all the QC proceedures that you'd expect, a glaring mistake like this shouldn't have slipped through the net.

People have paid for odder things on eBay.....

Not sure, but I would keep that. If it is a 60GB, it is obviously not a new model with removed logo. I just purchased an 80GB, and it of course has the logo. This may have been a very first release display model....but that is pure speculation on my part of course. Either way, pretty darn cool.

The techs sit in front of internet ready computers ... send them a link to the photo and see what THEY say!

I think that looks really good. Also, wouldn't the display models have the logo on them? To show the uninformed casual gamers (I really hate using that expression) that it is a PS3. Or maybe I'm up too late to be thinking properly.

Are bootlegged PS3 units confirmed? I guess anything can be bootlegged, but wouldn't it cost the bootleggers quite a bit of cash to do this?
