Xbox 360 in store availibility

After checking many stores (Target, Toys R Us, Walmart Gamestop etc.), I have found it hard to come by an Xbox 360 Elite set. It is available online at many places. Basically, I don't care about any of that. Is there any word of a new console design being released. I would like to get a 360 again, but don't like the idea that such a high percentage fail and some people say the failure rate won't slow down.

Is it possible this is a stock reduction? Then an opportunity for a redesign to hit the shelves? I say no to myself, but hope I'm wrong.

its a post holiday lull. its always like this. there isnt gonna be a hardware revamp till at least the summer (when they are planning on going to a 65nm GPU).

the latest elites, halo LE, and Pro systems all use the new hardware 65nm CPU. as far as that goes, the new consoles have not been reported to fail yet, but hte issue will be considered resolved when both chips hit 65nm size sometime soon.
