I have a lot of retro systems already, I already have SNES, GBA/DS, PS3, PS2 slim, PSP... but I am a little interested in the Shenmue games, as well as Panzer Dragoon Orta... I know that XBOX has Shenmue 2 for it, so what would you do,
should I get Dreamcast so I can play Shenmue 1 / 2
or XBOX and play Panzer Dragoon Orta and Shenmue 2?
Probably XBOX, right? But then I'll miss out on SHENMUE 1... agh
I'd recommend the Dreamcast. It has a smaller library obviously, but the ratio of good games to bad can't be beat; I really can't think of another system with so many good games and so few bad ones. The PAL DC version of Shenmue II has Japanese audio with English subtitles, which made the game much more enjoyable for me due to the shitty dub in the Xbox version.

Why not get both?
It's not like we're debating Xbox 360 vs. PS3 here.
Both systems can easily be obtained for less than fifty dollars.

This may be the best answer you get. Unless you have a tight budget, I'd just get both systems. Because I am assuming you want us to help you select one or the other, which you will then go out and get a bundle of games for. I mean you must have a tax refund on the way or something?
I'd buy both systems, with whatever accessories that might go with them, then pick up games for each of them at your leisure.
Having to choose one, I'd say the XBox. Right now there are stores which are phasing out their XBox 1 stock to make room for 360/PS3/Wii merchandise. So a lot of the things you need should still be easy to find for the time being, whether it is controllers, the dvd remote, various games and the like.
Dreamcast has already been phased out of most stores, so the games and merchandise won't be any more expensive or harder to find 6 months from now as opposed to today.

Yeah, if you can only get one right now, get the XBOX. GameStop sadly wants to get rid of their selection like the above poster said. It's time to pick-up those cheap games and accessories.

Well you can play Shenmue 2 on 360, so there's pretty much no point getting Xbox now (I still keep mine since I'm not getting 360 until MS sorts out RROD issue), if space is not an issue, get both. I still think both Sony and MS moved to the next generation too quickly as PS2 and Xbox are still pretty advance for most gamers, quite a few games don't really need those graphic updates.
I can't recommend Dreamcast enough (I have full 247 collection so my opinion may be biased), I can count less than 15% of the games that are real garbage (Who Wants To Beat Up Millionaire, Soul Fighter, etc), and 67% of the games above average quality, it's sad that when Sega had finally done it right after Saturn and 32X, the masses have lost faith with Sega. If you add Japanese games (even more shooters, puzzle, fighters, and arcade port), the whole library is godly.

Even though I'm a die-hard Dreamcast fan, I would say get Xbox first because it's easy to obtain most of the good games for cheap right now in stores. I hardly find anything for Dreamcast anymore in the wild, except at Goodwill once every blue moon.

i paid 4$ for my dream cast and 5$ for my xbox just try and find both cheap by the way not a huge fan of either and another thing you have one reto system and thats a snes that was released in the 90s. Go and get you an atari or nes before a dreamcast or xbox.

proper way to play shenmue is on the dc but the cheapest way is probably xbox and the easiest way. I'd do both probably.

I personally would do both, but if you had to choose one, it would be the xbox. There are more games that are easier to get and cheaper.

I've decided to just get the Dreamcast, and Shenmue 1 / 2, now just a matter of buying them! If anyone's selling their Shenmue's message me!

You do realize the sequel never saw a US release on the Dreamcast? So you'll be facing language barriers or PAL issues, unless you happen to speak Japanese or have the ability to play PAL Dreamcast games (Not sure what that entails, might be easy to work around with).

Well if you just want to play Shenmue, get Xbox, Shenmue 2 has Shenmue1 DVD, Shenmue 2 is a much longer game, besides, it's cheap to get both games and systems, for Dreamcast it's too late now unless you want used games that don't work.

All that's needed to play PAL Dreamcast games is a boot disc, which can easily be found online.
