I reckon it's time for one to be released! A big glossy 300-400 page bible of a book that looks back on the successor to the NES. It could have chapters about the systems hardware, the rivalry with the Genesis and others, the systems peripherals, reviews of every game with screenshots, box photos, and a price guide. It could have a section about how the system is percieved today and the kinds of gaming it inspired. Perhaps it could feature interviews from back then and now, maybe an Miyamoto interview and something from rare and even somebody from Square who was there back in the day.

These are just all random ideas.

I know it's all been done here and there in magazines over the years but nothing ever this complete. It's been some 10 years since anything was released for the system, we can now look back with clarity and see the SNES's place in gaming history.

I agree, I think there will be for all the major systems in the future, once game history becomes more stamped in the integrity of culture, there will be big books and classes taught about them with requirements ... maybe like play through this game and talk about its importance, LOL

It took a long time for film to move beyond 'entertainment for the lower class' so games aren't given that respect yet but once gen X / Y start to run things, I imagine there will be texts like that and big importance placed on the classics

I agree there should be some collaboration between game historians and those involved with it to produce master guides to the many game systems. This is the difficult part as for it to be that "complete guide" it can't be just 1-10 people.

On a side note:
We've had game programming projects in a few classes but nothing real advanced. I really wish there would be some E.C. video game courseso within computer science departments, but most colleges don't take this sector of software design/coding seriously enough. It's only a multi-billion dollar industry that brings out some of the best creativity in computer scientists.

I'm in for help. TG 16, Genesis, and the SNES is my area of collecting that could be an entire book right there.

I recall there's at least one whacking huge Famicom bible, but of course it's in Japanese.
