Can anyone point me in the direction of any classic games which feature time travel please.

Anything other then Chrono Trigger would be great.

Thanks.

Time Lord (NES)
Day of the Tentacle (PC)
Back to the Future Parts II & III (NES) - one game, but it's among the worst games for the system
Star Tropics 2: Zoda's Revenge (NES)
Mario's Time Machine (NES, SNES) - educational game

That's off the top of my head, and I'd say that Day of the Tentacle is the best of the bunch. Star Tropics 2 is alright, but it's not as good as the original.

A couple of time travel games I can think of are:

Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure (NES)
Where in time/the world is Carmen Sandiego? (Multiple systems)

Of course, it also depends on what genre of time travel games you are looking for.

Nobody mentioned Duke Nukem. He had a couple time-traveling missions.

1-Time to Kill for the PlayStation.
2-Zero Hour for the N64.

Magic of Scherherazade & Dragon Warrior 7 are my two favorite time traveling RPGs. In both games you'll flip flop between different time periods to affect both past, present, and future events. Fun stuff.

He didn't actually travel through time in Evermore. Evermore was a world with different historical settings, but they all existed at the same time.

Ha, had a feeling I was wrong. I only played very little of that game. Thanks for the correction.

Zelda: Oracle of Ages also has a neat 'time travel' structure to it.
And it is not really retro, but Gradius V is worth mentioning too.

Ah, Time Commando. Loved that game, even though I decidedly don't love tank controls.

Also, didn't the original Final Fantasy have time travel, of some sort?

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time technically fits, since you can rewind time and all. Plus, it's a kickass game and should be played by everyone.

The arcade game Time Soldiers, with it's rotating joystick and it's Commando-style gameplay.

Bill and Ted was mentioned for the NES, but not for the Atari Lynx.

There's probabaly a much better chance he might find it on Sega Master. It is one of my favs for that system.

I still get headaches thinking about that game...not quite as many as from the first though. I remember playing it forever trying to get to part III because I just knew it had to be better. But it ended up being more of the same. btw... fluxcapacitoristhekey

Does anyone else have as many fond memories as I do with Bill and Ted for the NES? It was kinda silly but still lots of fun.

Heh, good one! I'd classify it under that. I just love how the stages are numbered in chronological order. :D

Can we count Live-A-Live here? You go through eight different epochs in history with everything all coming together in the end. You also time travel to really far back in time at the end of Earthbound to be traumatized for life... erm, fight Giygas. Man, I've been in an uncharacteristic RPG mood as of late! LOL

Also, I can't say much more about it on the premises of being a massive spoiler, but I'd like to mention Breakdown for the XBOX.

Time for an obscure Famicom entry:

Time Zone - Sigma Entertainment, Inc. - 1991

"Time Zone is a rather obscure platformer for the Famicom, released in the early 90's. It's a short and fun romp through 6 periods of time, as the hero you control attempts to save his girlfriend from an evil time-traveling scientist. Albeit fairly simple, it does get tricky and requires patience at some spots, so be careful. Overall, if you want a nice quick game to get through, this may be your pick!"

- Devin Morgan, author of the lone Time Zone FAQ on GameFAQs

Video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnRvrvn-KAs

It's pretty fun. Been meaning to sit down and go through it, and I will one of these days.

Interesting list...I think it's incorrect about Anachronox, but I didn't finish the game. All I saw in the game were flashbacks.

Sega actually released a version of Time Traveler that you can play on a DVD player, similar to the DVD player versions of games like Dragon's Lair (actually, I think they're all from the same company that just licensed the rights). I have it and it's just as impossible as the arcade version, but without the cool "holographic" graphics. Though actually, it looks just about the same on a TV as it did in the arcade, to be honest, and it actually does have a red/blue pseudo-3D mode and even comes with a pair of cheap cardboard 3D glasses, but that looks pretty dumb.

In that case, wouldn't the Civilization games count as well?

I've never played it but how about Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time

Trinity, most excellent game by Infocom:
Your last day of your London vacation, also, due to the incoming Russian missile, your last day on earth....unless there's a door to get out in time?

Hmm, interesting point. My argument for EVO are that it feels like you're playing the same creature throughout, being blessed by Gaia and charged with fulfilling your ultimate destiny (from my vague recollection; haven't played the game in a while). Maybe you're not so much of a time traveler as you are an immortal being that gets to witness all of evolution :)

Civilization, on the other hand...well, you don't control one specific character. You could make an argument either way, I suppose. It's the same "mind" controlling one civilization since the dawn of time, but it might be that you're controlling successive rulers. Then there's the fact that, if you hide a primitive warrior somewhere on the terrain, that unit will survive for thousands of years :)

Also, I'm surprised nobody's given the smart-ass answer of "all games involve time travel, since there's a beginning, and events after it".
