Hiya
I am looking for some good ninja themed games to play. Mainly console games from the old 2600 up through the 16bit systems, also MAME based games would be ok. I've just been playing Ninja Golf on the 7800 and somehow have a need to play ninja games :)
Also, having an unhealthy liking towards the cut and paste Hong Kong ninja movies from the '80s doesn't help matters. Damn you Godfrey Ho!

AVOID Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, the music sucks and the graphics were crapped out. :(
As for Ninjas... there's Ninja Golf, Ninja Clowns (MAME) and Ninja Kids (MAME / Taito Legends).

crap, i'd forgotten all about that one :)
I used to play it quite a bit back in the arcade, the console versions not so much. I'll need to look into those

Ninja 5-0 is one of the best on GBA (not always 16-bit, I know.)
Ninja Spirit on TG-16, and The Ninjawarriors Again on SNES are also stellar.

Can't believe nobody's mentioned it yet:
Shadow of the Ninja by Natsume on the NES. It's short but very, very, very sweet.
Also, the arcade/MAME version of Shinobi is brilliant.
Shadow Dancer for the Genesis is the "sister game" of Shinobi and it's essential. Personally, I think it's the best Shinobi game on the Genesis.
Other Genny honorable mentions are Revenge of Shinobi and Shinobi III. (And if you have access to a Saturn, Shinobi Legions is great, too). PS2 Shinobi is fun and kind of cool, but fails in comparison to Ninja Gaiden/Ninja Gaiden Black on PS3 and Xbox.
Wrath of the Black Manta on the NES is decent, too. It's interesting-you interrogate people to get info.

Give Ninja Masters on the Neo Geo a shot. It's a damn fine fighting game that I never got too much into, but perhaps you'll like it a lot.

Outside of the aforementioned Shinobi series, I aslo highly recommend Ninja Warriors on the SNES and the TMNT series, especially Turtles in Time..

The Ninja is good on the Sega Master System.
I know someone mentioned it earlier, but Shadow of the Ninja is one hell of a good game. Do yourself a favor and get it!

Godfrey Ho teaches film in Hong Kong now... kinda scary :b
I'll third the Shinobi love, especially Revenge of Shinobi. It's one of my favorite 16 bit games. You might want to try and track down the original version, which had characters from other sources, including Spider-Man, Batman, Godzilla, Rambo, and The Terminator... very Godfrey Ho-eqsue.

Tenchu is pretty obvious! Though that is a bit outside your area of interest.
Does Alex Kidd in Shinobi World count? :P And Strider!

How come no one mentioned Legend of the Mystical Ninja? :hmm:
Others included:
Ninja Crusaders (Ninjas and mechs, what more can you ask for? :hail:)
Demon Sword (Game allows you to fly and fight like one.)
Those are the only good (underrated!) ones I can think off the top of my head.

it's not really a ninja game per-se, but Legend of the Mystical Ninja was pretty fun
NINJA (C64/Atari 8-bit)
Last Ninja (various), havent played it but it looks interesting, 3/4 isometric perspective like Diablo.
Ninja Kids is also on PS2 Taito Legends (& Xbox?)

"wrath of the black manta",which nobody ever seems to mention, this game is a fantastic side scrolling ninja game for the nes with some RPG elements mixed it and different special moves you can use with similar street fighter button combos. give it a try , you wont be disappointed.

Thanks alot guys, I've now got quite a selection to go through. Should be fun :)
Ninja Kid II on MAME seems like a bit of fun, was there a Ninja Kid I?
Ninja Princess, the Sega arcade game that The Ninja "SMS" was based on.

Kaze Kiri is a fast paced game with some great music.
Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USwHcNv2H7Q) is a video by Sunteam Paul.
Sengoku 2 & 3 are pretty good also.
