Everyone knows the big release in March as brawl is coming out March 9th, however basicaly any game that comes out soon after the release of brawl will probably see terrible sales or lack of knowledge of its existence.Thats why its a pretty good bet that this game:

Octomania for the Wii, from Atlus will no doubt be under the shadow of Brawl on its march 11th date. Atlus is known to be kinda hit or miss, some of its games become extremely rare while others become uncommon but can easily be found in gamestop for cheap (talking PS2 titles). However its a sure bet this one will sell terribly, an quickly become put on sale and never seen again. Just a heads up for Wii collectors.
EDIT:For typos.

That's a good catch, actually. I agree that this will likely sell terribly and probably become fairly scarce.

Any game that attempts to make tentacle porn family friendly is OK by me. ;)

Walmart's website (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=6527137) has it listed as coming out on 07/25. Of course, they tend to suck at release dates. I may have to shell out for this game as it looks fairly interesting.
edit: nm, Amazon has it listed in March and at only $20 (as opposed to the $40 that Walmart lists it at).

That's a silly prediction. It's a budget title and it's not like people are going to choose either Brawl or this particular puzzle game. Some people will buy both and some will buy neither. Without knowing how many will be pressed and where it will be sold, it's impossible to know if this will be a rarity down the road.

looking at the history of Atlus games, I really doubt its impossible to guess if this game will become rare or not.

According to IGN.com (http://wii.ign.com/objects/853/853801.html), Octomania was released in the U.S. on October 15, 2007. According to Gamerankings.com (http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/935576.asp), it was released on February 5, 2008.
Four different release dates from four different web sites. Weird.

Not every Atlus game becomes rare. In fact, many in recent years have taken several years to sell out and now that they are willing to do reprints, I doubt this game is ever going to be worth more than $20. In fact, a lot of their games can be obtained at a discount (Disgaea, Contact, etc...) from on-line and brick and mortar retailers.

More often than not, the RARE games are the ones nobody ever thinks about.
Perhaps this one will be semi-scarce eventually, but I just can't see a game for the Wii being THAT hard to find, especially when the system is so hot. Unless it's a retailer exclusive, which this one doesn't seem to be.

This is exactly the same thing that happened to Marvel Comics back in the 90s (sans the whole bankruptcy thing). Just replace Marvel with Atlus.
People see that old Atlus games are not only rare but also worth a pretty penny. These people all become half-assed speculators and start to buy up anything with Atlus on the cover hoping for the same result. The problem is that now a lot of people are doing it so Atlus is thrilled to see their stuff selling so well. They print more and more copies ensuring that their new stuff is never going to become rare.
I've come to a rather unfounded conclusion but I think it makes a bit of sense. If Game Informer gives a full review to a game (meaning not one of those quickie reviews) then it's likely not going to become rare.

Ha..."future rarities".
Am I the only one who thinks it's insane when collectors try to figure out if a game is going to be rare in the future...a month before the game comes out, no less?

No, it makes sense to think that. Really, nobody knows when a game is rare until the system it's for has been long off the market. I'm sure that there are some games for the current systems that nobody knows about. Heck, I haven't seen vampire rain on the PS3 but it is supposed to be out there.

I say replace Marvel with Image. I guess it doesn't matter though because they're all worthless now.

And this concerns you?
I guess you should have known that Pepsi Blue would become a "future rarity". :p

Tell me about it. And it didn't just stop with Marvel and Image. All the "bad girl" books(Shi, Lady Death, Razor and countles others) and many once hot independent books are all now barely pulling in their original cover price. What really sucks is that comics were going to be my next ebay hustle but I no longer expect to make much off of my old collection:sob:.
