Former Gamespot editor Jeff Gerstmann was a featured guest on X-Play tonight. Now a blogger, he discussed the declining innovation in Japanese game development. He was mainly there in a head to head feature with another dude but I forgot his name.

After the discussion was over, they aksed Jeff to remain for another chat. Adam asked him if he could discuss why he was fired and Jeff said he could not because of the ongoing legal ramifications. So from that implication I would guess that he's suing Gamespot for being fired. And that would only be valid if he was wrongfully fired. So again we have to wonder if this was due to a negative review score he gave a certain game:?. Or so the rumor goes.

Mods, if this is in the wrong forum please feel free to move it to it's proper destination:).

I wouldn't say it's necessarily because he's suing Gamespot. Gamespot isn't allowed to talk about why he was released either. It's some policy they have that they aren't allowed to publicly discuss terms of that kind of thing. In the contracts or something.

More than likely he signed a confidentiality agreement in exchange for a hefty severance package.

Maybe I heard wrong, but I watched this episode last night and didn't hear him say ongoing legal ramifications. He just basically said he couldn't.

I didn't get a chance to see the show but i came across his new website Giant Bomb http://www.giantbomb.com/ So far its just a blog but it would seem they are making a giant gaming site. I think it has the potential to be a great site since now he's free of all the crap that comes with working for gamespot.

On X-Play he was talking about starting up his own website. I need to go check it out.
