Hey guys, out of curiosity, does my Super Gameboy for the SNES play Gameboy Color games as well as classic Gameboy games? Thanks for your input in advance!

It won't play any GBC games that are exclusively for the Gameboy Color (indicated by a clear plastic cartridge). The hardware is different.

Only the cartridges that were designed for both, like Pokemon Blue and Red. Otherwise, the North American SGB only plays original GB games. I don't remember what there was with the SGB2 (pardon link capability perhaps).

Description: Play Game Boy games on your SNES! The precursor to the Game Boy Player on the GameCube. Add color to previously black & white games. This device is shaped like a cart, but taller, with a slot for GB games. This device will NOT play the clear "Game Boy Color only" games, but will play the black backwards-compatible GBC carts. Certain titles like Donkey Kong (94) have enhanced functions and colors in the SGB.

Correct and as indicated from the guide (http://www.digitpress.com/DP/cmf/game.cmf?gameid=14122).

Would you say then that most of the Gameboy Color games don't play in the Super Gameboy? For example, I won't be playing GTA on my SNES anytime soon, will I? Is there a way to find out without viewing the actual cartridge if it will work on it or not? Thank you for your guys promptness on the previous inquiry.

Special Peripherals: Game Boy black & white compatible.

Yes. The DP guide has a wealth of information (http://www.digitpress.com/DP/cmf/game.cmf?gameid=22944) on games. :)

i guess you could use an emulator and the rom and set it on the super gameboy mode. if it gives you the message that GTA is for the game boy color only, you'll find your answer.

if its a grey or black original gameboy cartridge it will work with the sgb, if its the clear cased games it will not work.

Isn't it also true that the old Game Genie won't work for games with any GBC features? I know it'll handle Pokemon Red/Blue fine, but not sure about Yellow.

Most gameboy color games will do this unless the game was designed to work on both. In doing so though, you loose a lot of features the GBC has other than just color. The super gameboy works the same as the original but adds color palettes to the game.

If you play a lot of newer gameboy games maybe look into getting a gamecube and the gameboy player accessory. Same concept as the SGB but better. The Gameboy player can be found for 19.99 at Gamestop and gamecubes are going cheap on craigslist. I've seen some for as cheap as $10-15 with one controller.
