Has anyone experienced lag on projection LCD monitors?

I have a CRT HDTV and routinely score mid-80s-90s on hard. When I played at my friend's house the other day I was either failing out or scoring 20-30 percent lower. We tried to tweak the settings on his television but came up short. I went home and tested the same songs and found my performance went back to the 80s-90s.

Any advice would be helpful, thanks.

Well, not much of a solution, but I can commiserate -

I have a 52 inch Panasonic LCD, produced around 2004, and it's default calibration with Rock Band is perfect as far as I can tell (also on Guitar Hero 1, 2, and 80's on PS2 AND Guitar Hero 2 and 3 on XBOX 360 - NO LAG ISSUES), I can nail 100% on most songs on medium with all the instruments, and any point losses on higher settings, I can olny attribute to personal error, OR the general crappiness of the Rock Band guitar.

When I go to my friend's house for "Rock Band Wednesdays" we play on a projection screen that he has set up ... and the calibration on everything feels like, a micro-second off ... especially when it matters most (on the drums) ... I frequently can blow long strings due to the fact that I need to hit the drum pads on HIS setup a second earlier than the screen indicates. I think that the game gives the guitar controllers a BIT wider berth in terms of how it rates the accuracy of the strumming ... and while I've begged him to adjust his calibration, he refuses to as he feels that the rest of the people playing have "learned" to deal with the calibration issues (if there are any).

So, yeah ... I'm not sure the best way to calibrate stuff (THAT IS, IF YOU'VE ALREADY TRIED THE IN-GAME CALIBRATION WITH NO LUCK), as I haven't needed to on my home setup, and my friend won't calibrate his projection screen setup ... but I totally feel your pain.

Calibrate it.

You're dealing with micro-second response time and some TVs will display some lag; that's what the features there for.

It'll take about 2 or 3 minutes to get it just right but it will do wonders for the rest of your play time.

I thought that Rock Band has something to calibrate for lag? I know PS2 Guitar Hero II does.

Like everyone else has said, try going through the manual calibration in game. Over on the rock band forums there are instructions from a forum member on an alternate way to calibrate that works better for some people. The thread is titled something like black magic calibration, or maybe voodoo calibration. I'd link to the thread but the forums over there seem to be down for the moment.

I have several tvs including big projections and yeah the lag is there. Haven't tried my new 32in sony lcd yet but I have been sticking to my trusty sony tube tv at 27inchs no lag whatsoever and my old games look great (I swear old stuff looks weird on new tvs)

the new tvs/big screens are great for tv/movies though

Defintely RCM, my CRT HDTV seems a lot better for it than the LCD projection my buddy has. Same thing, I do much worse at his house.

Thanks to all. Please know that we did attempt to calibrate and it didn't work. There is a "game mode" that turns off the image processing but it only works through composite cable which is puzzling. Sounds like my friend is out of luck!
