I'm heading back to Texas for spring break on March 15th. I plan on visiting CGX in the Stonebriar Mall, but I was wondering if there are any other places that sell classic stuff in the vicinity. I've only got one week, and I need to get as much stuff as possible.

I can't think of any place specifically selling classic games in the area. I know there's a couple of decent thrifts around the area, though. There's one in The Colony on Main Street that was pretty good, and there's one by the same company not too far from Vista Ridge Mall that's good too. That location had a Capcom X-Men arcade cab there once!

You'll also want to hit the Movie Trading Company in Lewisville. It's right off I-35, near Vista Ridge Mall. They've got a small selection of classic games in the back in a glass case. Their selection varies a lot I've found. Sometimes they have great stuff (Neo-Geo Pocket Color games, yeah!) and then sometimes they've sold out of everything I was interested in. But at least they sell Pocky and a bunch of other Japanese snacks, which justifies the visit for me. :)

I forgot about Movie Trading Company. I never went there even though I used to work at the EB across the street before it got closed down.

A few other places to hit:

1. Movie Trading Company at Stonebriar Mall - facing Preston just north of 121 also has a small but decent selection of classics.

2. Game X-Change in Highland Village - East of I-35E, south of Lake Lewisville has a decent selection as well. They've only been around for about 4-5 months. I can't remember the street name, but Google it and you'll find it easily.

Hope this helps!

There's another CGX in Valley View mall, basically at 635 and Preston (actually Preston and Alpha, but close enough). If you need directions, pm me and I'll send them your way.

Quick digression - Valley View Mall is where they filmed a bunch of interior shots for the movie Logan's Run. Every time I go there for some reason I expect to see a giant mirrored hand sculpture with a glowing red crystal in the center. :)

There's a Trade N' Play in Plano that has a tiny amount of classic stuff. They haven't been open for very long, so they don't have a whole lot, and it's pretty much Genesis-era and up. I've bought some stuff at other locations, but not that one. I believe there's a location in McKinney, also.

Oh, has anyone seen anything good at those stores lately? I know CGX stores have a case fpr rarer stuff. But I'm looking for Turbo CD and Neo Geo stuff. Have you guys seen this stuff in the stores lately?

Actually, the CGX in Stonebriar has had some AES games for a while now. They are pretty common for AES and a bit overpriced (which may be generous on my part, the prices have spiked in the past 6-9 months there). I don't remember the specific titles, but it was interesting to see anything AES in a retail location.

Did they have any systems?

My sister knows where it is. Thanks, I plan on hitting that place up big time.

The Stonebriar store doesn't. They do have one at the Valley View store, but it's way up high on the wall as a display and I get the feeling they don't really want to sell it. I asked once (for curiosity sake) and was told $500.

F that! Thanks for the info though. I'm hoping I can score some good stuff while I'm out there.

Maybe you can hit Trader's Village in Arlington, TX while you're here. The collector guy at the north end of the place has some Turbo stuff. I've never seen any Neo-Geo gear there, though.

I didn't know about that. Is it near the Six flags?

Nope, it's in south Arlington. Check it out with Google Maps. Take a look at it with the Satellite view, so you can really see the scope of the place. It's pretty dang huge. At the north row of stalls (there's a water tower nearby) there is a collector guy who has several TurboGrafx-16 games. He's rearranged his stall lately, so they might not be out. You might need to ask him for a look.

If you go, try to look around the place a little. When 98PaceCar and Icebreaker went with me a month ago, we ended up finding a few TurboDuo games amongst a pile of old videotapes, cassettes, and crappy music CDs. You never know what you're going to find out there. The areas where people just dump their junk onto tables or in piles on the ground are great places for finds.

That dude on the far north side also sets his stuff out in the sun unfortunately. He's got complete games for a bunch of systems in racks right in the sun getting more bleached out by the day :(

Well, the ones in the glass case he covers up with cloths. I usually have to move them out of the way to check out his stuff.

I believe it's just Sat and Sun, but I may be wrong on that. I've never been able to try heading out there during the week.

It's open every Saturday and Sunday. Not like the McKinney Third Monday Trade Days. I finally broke down and went up there. It was a pretty nice change of pace in comparison to Trader's Village. Not as large, naturally, but more laid back. No crappy Spanish music blaring from virtually every stall, no kids popping those damn gunpowder snaps on the ground around you every few milliseconds, no endless stalls filled with stupid crap that nobody in their right mind would ever buy at a flea market. The McKinney flea was mostly rustic furniture, jewelry, handmade crafts, and puppies/kittens/rabbits. I admittedly got there late, only an hour or two before closing, and on a cold day that was rainy earlier. There weren't a whole lot of vendors selling games. Two people had modern games, and one had a box full of NES carts, boxed and loose. I think I'll give the place a try once more during the summer before I write it off. I keep hoping I'll find a magical flea market where classic games are thrown around like confetti, and none of the vendors have ever heard of eBay.

I'll have to make Traders Village my first stop since my flight comes in on a Saturday and leaves on the next saturday. I've got a week to grab as much as I can. Thanks for the info guys.

Hey, does Traders' Village have anyone who sells boxed Genesis games? I'm assuming since its a flea market deal, I need to bring cash?

There is at least 1 regular vendor that has boxed genesis stuff. But it is a typical flea market, so there's no telling what you will find. I tend to see a lot of NES stuff out there, sometimes boxed but usually loose.

Definitely bring cash. Nobody (or at least very few people if any) will take credit cards.

I did get to go to trader's village today, and it was amazing. I've never seen a flea market that large, and one that sells rims. I did get to get some Turbo Games, but many I already had and some others were more expensive then on ebay. I did get to see some amazing stuff in the wild (Sega Master System, Japanese Victor Saturn, Sega CDX, Master System games, Jaguar Games). I'll continue to update if I see anything really cool.

Guys, I really appreciate your help. I plan on making a trip this summer again for the flea market alone.

I've always found that planning a trip is as much fun as the trip itself. I use Google Maps to locate thrift stores and flea markets along my route, I use the Satellite function to look at the flea markets and see if they're big enough to bother with, and plot out when they're open and how much time I can spend at them. There's one not too far from Tyler, TX that's pretty big, but is only one weekend a month. There's one in Greenwood, LA that I always have to hit when I go through, but each visit sees less gaming stuff. One of the first times I hit there I bought a big ol' pile of Atari, Intellivision, C64, and Colecovision cartridges for $1 each, along with a boxed Atari ProLine Trackball for $5. And out back, they had a converted Donkey Kong machine turned into an 8-Ball Action for sale, although I couldn't find anyone to tell me how much it was. Once I got a good look at it, I realized that it had been sitting out in the weather for some time, so it probably wouldn't work. Still, it's seriously exciting to find things like that in the wild, gets the heart pumping. It's what makes the trip worthwhile.

Good luck on your next trip. If you're going to drive, do what I mentioned and check Google Maps to find all sorts of places to hit on the way. Although driving might drain all your cash away, what with the insane price of gas lately.
