Found this intresting article explaining Cloud's actions and thoughts in FF7. Spoilers for those who haven't beaten or played the game yet.

There's an awfully thorough document of a similar nature at Gamefaqs, I think.

swarms of gamers totally misinterpret Cloud, possibly the most finely crafted Final Fantasy character yet.

LOL LOL LOL LOL

"Possibly the most finely craft..." Oh, that's rich! Tell me another one.

LOL LOL LOL LOL

Problem with Cloud? The characters and story line in Final Fantasy were the best in any RPG that I've ever seen, most developed, etc.. etc... If you disagree, you didn't play the game right :)

Before I get into this debate AGAIN (this would be, like, number 5), I'm just going to state that the only FF games I haven't played so far are (jpn numbering) 2,3 and 10. So, in other words, I've played through, 1,4,5,6,7,8, and 9, and most of them I've been through twice. Of those, I consider 5 the worst, closely followed by 7. I disliked both of those games, for reason which I don't wish to get into again.

By saying I "didn't play it right", I'm assuming you mean that I didn't go through the all sidequests, which is untrue. I have heard the entire FF7 storyline, I just didn't like it.

Furthermore, I've seen better characters and storylines in non-FF games than I have in any final fantasy, but that's a whole other can of worms.

Well, I HAVE played 10, so I guess I'm one up one ya. I also played the FF2 hack for about 5 hours. So if we're gonna do the brag about how much final fantasy we played thing, then I guess I win.

But that's not my point.

If you think any other Final Fantasy game had a better or more well-developed plot/char/storyline than FF7, I can't help ya, I doubt anyone else on the planet could help you either.

Frankly, I think http://www.nuklearpower.com/daily.php?date=010418 Is the best and most well developed final fantasy I've seen to date (After FF7 of course)

Heh. 8-bit theater's awesome.

In any case, I wasn't trying to brag about my FF knowledge or turn this into some sort of gaming equivalent of a penis size contest. All I was trying to say is that I have background, because, otherwise, you'd invariably think I was some guy who started from FF8 or something.

In any case, quotes like the one that follows tell me that trying to show my reasoning here will be a waste of my time, so I'm not going to bother. Just try to remember that your opinions are not absolute and infallible.

This elaborate defense of Cloud "Stife" (heh) is pretty academic now, but it does point out that he's a deeper character than one might suspect after a cursory run through Final Fantasy VII. Still, whether or not you liked Cloud or the game's overall story is as much a matter of personal taste as your favorite ice cream. And on that point, Daiquiri Ice kicks your ass.

Daiquiri flavored ice cream? Where the hell can I get me some of that?

Any decent-sized Baskin and Robbins should have it on the menu. It's the bright green stuff that tastes kind of like rum. Delicious, especially in the summer.

Sorry, I mistook it :) Just agree with me on the fact that it was more developed than final fantasy 1, 2, 3, or 5, and I suppose I'd be happy, heh.

Glad SOMEONE else doesn't like FF5 at least.

Damn it. The Baskin Robbins here just got bought out by Hershey's.

@sylentwulf - yeah, the characters and story were definitely more developed than 1,2,3 and 5. Heh, X-Death. Great name for a villain, right?

To me FF5 was way too open-ended with the job systems and whatnot.
