View Full Version : Problem with my X-Box 360 (NOT rings of death...)

It seems as if my video output is messed up on my X-Box 360. I turn it on, a couple black and white bars flash on the screen, and I can hear it on the T.V., but I can't see anything. Here's what I already tried:

- Switching to another set of 360 cords
- Switching to a different T.V.
- Making sure the switch is on T.V. instead of HDTV

None of these worked. Will Microsoft be able to fix this? And how much will it cost me?

Sounds like a problem that would be covered under the 1 year warranty that comes with the console that covers non RRoD issues. If it's been longer than a year, I'm not sure how much MS will charge you.

I had a similar problem with my XBOX 360. I was playing the latest Tiger Woods with with my girl and the graphics became glitchy and then I lost all video input, I had sound but no video. I saw the rings of death, then I unplugged my console and plugged it back in and the rings were gone but I had the same problem, audio and no video. I replaced all the cords and everything to no avail. I read alot of gaming magazines and supposedly this is what cause the red rings to appear. When I called Microsoft, I told them I had this problem and they said if the Red Rings aren't appearing it is not covered under there new 3 year warranty. I bitched and moaned that even though I was experiencing the same problem that causes the ring of light and they should cover it. But they said unless I see the rings they won't cover it. However, they said they would fix it for roughly about $100, not to mention the shipping you have to pay for. I figured with all the problems with the XBOX 360s I might as well get an ELITE, which I did. As far as I am concerned though, the xbox support team I called did nothing to make me an xbox fan happy. Do you have an ELTITE or the white one?.

They can't do that. You mean to tell me that if the system craps out on you WITHOUT a "red ring" error light, you will not be covered by the extended warranty? Well, I guess they CAN do that according to your post. That is just horrible.

This is a early sign of 3 red lights. keep running it and you should get 3 red lights. it shouldnt take long. try running it for an hour or so. when ever I see this 3 red lights always follow with in the nnext few hours of use.

Couldn't you just tell them you saw the red rings and they are there. Once you send it in, it won't work for them either way. If the rings don't show up for them, too bad.

M$ support sucks ass. It's not our fault they rushed out the system. It's also not our fault they can't hire people that can understand me/I can understand.

I wish it was that easy but you have to remember that we are dealing with Microsoft. If you send it to them under 3 red light terms and they dont get 3 red lights when one of the techs turn it on they just send it back or ask if you want it fixed for $$$$$

I have an Elite. And it is 4 months old.

So what I'm getting from this is...

If I don't get the red rings, they won't repair it for me? And If I keep my system running, I'll eventually get it?

Hmm.

(P.S. I completely overlooked this forum. Sorry bout that.)

If it's 4 months old, it's covered either way... Call 'em and send it in.

Sounds peachy. I'll do this next week and let you guys know how it goes.

I would this week. But I'm broke.

Do they ask for the receipt/proof of purchase for when I bought my 360? Because I am not sure if I have that anymore o_O

no you dont need a receipt. try registering it for free on xbox.com because this will prove ownership.

I just got this no video problem last night, but I have the 2 year BB replacement warranty. This should be covered, no?

Thinking one step further, if I'm nice enough to them, might they be willing to let me switch out my HDD so I don't have to lose all my saves and have to re-download everything again?

Remove your HD before you send the system in.
