I looked for a thread where we discussed this, but I couldn't find it. I really liked the PS1 Harvest Moon, but I don't have the system any more. I've got two options - wait for the 360 version which I guess is TBA, or pick up one of the DS or GBA versions. What should I do?

Harvest Moon DS is a mixed game. I want to say it's another great adition in the series but with a few bugs and the semi steep learning, it has turned a few people against it. As it's still fairly cheap I'd recomend it none the less as it's good. The second one recently released has had alot of good reviews from people I know who've bought it. Waiting for the 360 version is ok but if you can swing it, get the handheld version as it's a game that's always fun on the go.

This doesn't do you much good, but the best two are generally considered to be the Super Nintendo original and the N64 title.

Well you've got Harvest Moons for the Cube, PS2, GBA, GBC, DS, PSP out there for immediate consumption. Not to mention Rune Factory and Innocent Life (a fantasy take for the DS with weapons!!! and a futuristic take for the PSP). Katchoo has dumped much time into Rune Factory and a good amount of time into the DS one. But then again she loves her Harvest Moon.

It is a good question. I personally haven't played that many due to the fact that I put about 7 years into each one a play, but so far N64 was my first and favorite.

That's why I'm asking the question. There are so many Harvest Moon games out there for the GBA and DS, some have to be better than others, keeping in mind that I really liked HM: Back to Nature on PS1.

Here are the three best (across all platforms), in order of my preference:

1) Harvest Moon: Magical Melody (Gamecube)
2) Harvest Moon 64 (N64)
3) Harvest Moon (SNES)

Not that that answers the OP's question, really...

I'm not that familer with the GBA games beyond knowing a few tie in with the Gamecube ones. While that made for great play between the two, it kind of sucked if you dont have the Gamecube game in question. Also, the first DS game tied in with one of the GBA games though I cant remember which that was either.

The First GBA one was addicting when I was younger. So was the N64 one.

The touch screen controls of Harvest Moon DS make it slightly better (and much easier to navigate) than the GBA Harvest Moon. Gameplay-wise, they're almost identical.

As far as the console versions go, I've always preferred the "pick up and play" aspect of the handheld versions. It suits the nature of the gameplay better. I've always thought of Harvest Moon as a game that can be fun for an hour or less. It just seems like it would get boring for any longer amount of time.

If you have a Wii I'd say the original SNES version, if not, then get Friends of Mineral Town for the GBA (there is also More Friends of Mineral Town, but it's basically the same game, just with a female lead).

I also prefer the simplicity of the GBA ones, the GCN ones are great as well, but require more of an investment, plus I'm also a tad biased cause I also prefer the sprite based graphics of the GBA over polygons when it comes to the HM series, plus I also think it's a bit easier to do the gardening tasks in a 2D environment vs. 3D

The best part of this thread is hearing that there's a 360 Harvest Moon in the works. Me happy.

Wow. This reminds me, I haven't bought a Harvest Moon game since... the GameCube. Up to that point I had them all. That said if you love the PS1 version then Friends of Mineral Town (GBA) is a good choice for you. Takes place in the same town, uses a lot of the same NPCs, just different things happen.

I might buy a 360 version though... Harvest Moon with achievements might just be the incentive I need to return to the series.

There is no 360 release in the works as far as is known, its status is TBA and mostly a rumor among fans. People heard about Harvest Moon Online and thought it would be a good fit on the Xbox 360, so the speculation is it could be released for it.

Rune Factory is a must. It's a delight, and the fantasy setting and art style is refreshingly different than other Harvest Moons' run-of-the-mill cuteness.

I enjoyed GBA and N64 versions more than the other versions, so I recommend both.

Yeah, word on the street is that Harvest Moon is coming to the Wii with controls for the tools, not the 360.

Oh yeah, my vote would be Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland for PS2 because it's relatively cheap and easy to find at Gamestop. I know Innocent Life is coming to PS2 as well sooner or later.

I remember once back in the day, when I worked at FYE, I tried to sell a couple a copy of Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland by referring to it as "the Grand Theft Auto of farming simulations." For some reason, they didn't bite...
