There are 5 KB toy stores in my area in surrounding malls. When they were clearing out the DC stuff 3-4 months back everything went pretty quick. 1 of the 4 stores had the dreamcast steering wheel for original price of 59.99 and wouldn't discount it. I told the manager I would buy them all at $20 if they wanted to get rid of them(I planned to resell them on ebay at around $35-40 at the time). The manager there said that the prices are given to them and they have nothing to do with it. All the stores follow this policy.

So I check this one store that is the only one with anything left and it has a total of 8 DC steering wheel setups. No other stores have any DC stuff at all. After about a month they go down to 44.99 and did not move for a couple months.
This brings us to about a month ago. I went to visit my sister in Arizona. After visiting a mall there I notice KB having a 75% off accessories all playstation including steering wheels. So, I figure that they would probably be selling them at home for the same price. I call my friend at home and have her go there for me. I told her to buy all they had if they were under $15. My friend calls me back the next day and says there were only 3 left and she bought them all. The grand total was just over $10 :o . They were marked to 2.99 each. I could not believe it.

The point of my story is that they could have marked them down to $20 and I would have taken all of them. Instead they go from $44.99 to $2.99.

Before anyone points it out,
I know that the people who work there can't change prices and $150 loss is no big deal for a major chain, but in my world business is business and that was just dumb.

All in all, I was happy to get what I got for way less than I ever expected.

I used to work for KB Toys, and their pricing is screwy. That's why some of them still have brand-new Game.com, B&W Game Boy, and N64 stuff sitting around at original price. They also mark most new games at 5 dollars over MSRP. Why? Who knows? I would say that they count on stupid parents for the bulk of their video-game sales.

But I have gotten a few deals from their sales in the past. I found 2 Mad Catz N64 controllers that had an arcade stick/flight stick combo (great for Pokemon Puzzle League). Those were $3 each, and I found some Nyko PS1 controllers brand new for 99 cents each. Back when I worked there, a few PS2 games were selling for half off, but most of those were going to be Greatest Hits titles soon anyway.

Every so often, they'll have a good sale on a single item, but their pricing seems pretty arbitrary...
