I just bought a PSP and I want to get the best RPGs for the system, what are the best ones?

Brave Story
Final Fantasy Anniversary I and II (assuming you don't already have them ten times over)
Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth
Final Fantasy Tactics
Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness
Jeanne D'Arc

... There aren't many good old school RPG's on PSP, and the ones there are pretty much suck. STRATEGY RPG's, on the other hand....

From a personal standpoint, Gurumin is an amazing game as well. Definitely get it.

Kinda' borderline and simplistic but I liked Dungeon Siege.

LocoRoco is one of the weirdest and coolest games I have ever played.

Music usually isn't something that is important to me in a game but I have been totally charmed by the music in LocoRoco. I play the second level over and over just for the music.

...but is by no means an RPG which is what the TC was asking.

The PSP is pretty thin on the traditional JRPG front. The good news is there are plenty of SRPG's to be had (all are mentioned above).

Speaking of PSP RPG's...I just found out that the Elder Scrolls: Oblivion game was officially cancelled last month. Bummer.

This is a really good list, to which I'd add PoPoLoCrois. Riviera: The Promised Land and Puzzle Quest are good too, if you don't already have them on other systems.

Whoops you are correct. I need to read closer.

Is Generation of Chaos and Aedis Eclipse: Generation of Chaos any good?

And, of course if you choose to install custom firmware, you'll have your choice of nearly every PS1, SNES, GB, GBA, Genesis, TurboGrafix, and NES RPG ...

... that's enough to keep a person busy for a lifetime!

Tales of Eternia - Thankfully the PSP is region free so importing shouldn't be a problem and it should be easily obtainable at a fair price.

No. Hated that game.

I bought my PSP for older type RPGs. So far I've played and loved the Legend of Heroes series and PoPoLoCrois. Rivieria was awesome for GBA and don't see why it wouldn't be just as good for PSP though.

Also really want to try Brave Story but haven't got it yet.

Ys - The Ark of Napishtim is pretty good expect for loading time. If you are into PSP RPG, you should definitely check this site (http://www.tlrgames.com/psprpgs/PSPrpgs.html).

Could also import Genso Suikoden 1 & 2. Why the hell that has not been released in the US, I'll never know.

SCEA has a policy that PS1 ports may only be re-released on PSP if they have 30% or more new content. From what I understand, the Suikoden collection was a straight port(resized for pixel perfect PSP screen resolution)with an added music player; not good enough for a US release. There are exceptions I'm sure, but that's apparently the 'rule'.

I know, I know.... It's dumb. But that pretty much summarizes SCEA lately, doesn't it?

As an aside, is the Genso Suikoden collection in english? Probably not... Dammit.

What a dumb policy. AFAIK it is not in english.

I would bet if this were released here it would sell pretty well and maybe even move some systems. It would also start a thread here about how it is going to bring down the price of psx versions.
