I went out walking last night and saw a truck with the machine strapped in the back.

I know this is the least exciting and interesting topic ever. I guess it says a lot about the arcade scene when one gets excited by something so mundane.

I was driving through the neighborhood and some guy was hauling some generic, beat up old cab to the curb. And I thought "OOH A CAB ON MY STREET!!" like a total nerd.

It was in really bad shape. I just bought a raggedy old Arkanoid cab...I better not push it. ;-)

Wow what a weird series of coincidences. This is like in JFK and Abraham Lincoln territory.

1. When I made the post above, I was taking a break from painting my Arkanoid cab.

2. I bought the Arkanoid cab from a guy in Collingswood NJ who also had a Mat Mania. I almost took it but there wasn't enough room in my brother's van.

3. On my next break I went on a beer run. I passed the house where I had seen the "generic" beat up cab. There was a guy working on it! I guess he wasn't bringing it to the curb that day after all.

4. On the way back from the liquor store I stopped in front of the guy's house. I noticed some stuff I hadn't noticed before. First, the cab is not generic, it's kind of odd looking...it looks like it has a four player CP. He is clearly working on it as it's missing a monitor. And he has some other cabs...a baseball game I saw on Craigslist....and Mat Mania! The same one at the guy in Collingswood's place that I bought the Arkanoid from! Now that's weird.

5. The guy was nowhere to be seen. I went home and finished painting the cab. After a few beers and inhaling a lot of paint fumes, I felt it would be a good time to drive to my mother in law's house for dinner. I thought I would stop and introduce myself to this guy...if he was working on that machine maybe he could help me with some stuff, or we could look for cabs or be friends or whatever. So I drove to his house but I didn't introduce myself...he was old! I don't mean old like me, he looked 60 or 70 or something. I didn't feel comfortable walking up to someone that age and saying "hey man, is that a Gauntlet cab? I'm Kid Ice from DP!"
