If the official Mario Kart Wii (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mario-kart-wii) box art tells us anything, it's that we won't be waltzing out of the local game store with a standard-issue game case tucked neatly into our back pocket. No, we'll be lugging around an actual box -- and for what? The Wii Wheel (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/11/nintendo-announces-online-wii-mario-kart-wii-wheel/). We can't imagine Nintendo's gonna charge extra for this 2-cent hunk of plastic, but it's the inconvenience that irks us: another box to break down, another prop cluttering the coffee table. What say we round these wheels up and send 'em on a one-way rocket to the sun!

I'm praying that the wheel accessory or using the Wiimote on its side aren't neccessary. Holding that stupid wheel in mid-air is going to get old quick. Innovative my ass.

No. Fucking. Comment. :bad-words::grumble:

Of course the Wii wheel won't be necessary, its just a plastic shell for the Wiimote to sit in. Similar things have already been released for the Wii.

I imagine holding the Wiimote on its side will be the only way to play, I'm betting there's no analog control. Hopefully I'm wrong though.

And as long as there's a white dvd case with coverart inside that box to hold the game disc, I'll be happy. Was that how Wii Play was packaged, or was that in a cardboard sleeve?

I think you'll steer by turning the WiiMote left or right, B will be fire, 1 and 2 will be throttle/break.

I really hope Nintendo isn't stupid enough to not include analog controller. I'm hoping they aren't but I'm scared.

Why would they include analog control? Excite Truck and many other driving games for the console have been solely steered by the remote. Why would this be any different?

Either way, I'll pick this up.

I LOVE Excite Truck and I look forward to Mario Kart Wii :)

Excite Truck is one of my most favorite games and it is being one of the most underrated title for the Nintendo Wii :(

yeah, I just hope we get an actual case for the game, cause I don't want, or plan to use the plastic wheel.

Mario Kart Wii steering scheme revealed:

Classic controller? GC controller? AWESOME.

I was totally wrong. And I'm glad of it. Nintendo is smart to include multiple setups -- it pleases the casual and harder core at the same time.

I hate to be the one to point this out but Mario and Luigi aren't in any sort of kart. They're actually floating above the ground.

Props to Nintendo for including analog control.

I'm very happy about the optional control schemes. Thank you Nintendo! They just need to come out with a real Wii controller (Wavebird-esque) and be done with it. The Wiimote obviously isn't the best choice for every genre.

or maybe just a Classic Controller option in more games.

What? Floating? You mean you don't SEE their karts?

Hmmm ... there must be something wrong with you.

I can see them clearly.

I don't know if I'm a fan of the 'come-hither' look Mario is giving his brother.

Why do you think Luigi looks shocked and/or scared?

Would anybody else like it if Nintendo added a "squeaky" horn button to the center of the "Wii Wheel" like in one of those toddler sit/ride cars?

Squeak! Squeak!

IMO, Nintendo has a poor track record when it comes to game boxes and labels.

Obviousily Mario and Luigi are being used to demonstrate how players will be using the wheel shell.

And I'm glad I turned out to be wrong on my predictions of no analog control, besides there being tricks and stunts to pull off, Nintendo has pleased me with everything I've heard about this game so far.

Does anyone know a more definitive release date for this than "Q2 2008"?

Mario Kart Wii is dated for April 24th in Australia. I have to say I'm surprised. I thought Nintendo would space these things out a little more strategically. Do they even have any other announced A-list games for the rest of the year? I thought this would be a fall 2008 release. I guess not.

According to Gamefaqs, Mario kart is supossed to be released in the US on 5/1/08.
What kind of world are we living in where EU ansd AUS get games like Mario Kart before the US?

That was a joke....

IGN and various online retailers are listing a 4/28 release date. I was also surprised by how soon we're getting it. Perhaps Nintendo is trying to take some attention away from GTA? I wonder what their big Q4 game will be...

O i cant even imagine how many times i would get hit in the face for pressing that too much... I would definitely love it they did include a horn!
