I'd like to collect & play great RPG's that were released outside the USA. However, they gotta be in English. Does anyone have recommendations for such RPGs for these systems...?

TurboGrafx-16 / Turbo Duo / PC Engine
Super Nintendo / Super Famicom
NES / Famicom

Offhand, the only one I know of is the UK release of Terranigma. Any others?

Thanks,

jeff

If fan translations count, I can name a lot of RPGs that were never released in the US that are now in English.

i just recently found out about Lagrange Point for Famicom, and it has me very interested. However, I know it has not been translated to date. Would the Famicom cart work on an NES, translated or not? I know it has that funky sound chip...

but some good translated NES/famicom games would be Sweet Home, as well as Final Fantasy 2 and 3.

yeah most of them are mainly translated by fans or whatnot. Its hard to tell the accuracy but I'm pretty sure they are close enough to be able to tell the story the way it was meant to be. So most of the ones you are looking for are mainly going to be roms and whatnot. Super Famicom has a bunch of great ones, I'm playing Star Ocean right now.

Tales of Eternia and Breath of Fire 3 both came out in the US in English, though, but for a different system (PS1). ToE was called Tales of Destiny II in the States.

As for fan translations and their accuracy, most of them are as accurate as you're going to get. Fans in general care more about accurate translations than localization teams, who sometimes take creative license. That's why a lot of games that have already been translated officially are sometimes translated again by fans, to get what they perceive as a more accurate story.

I was thinking about carts and hucards rather than emulators. I spend enough time on the PC each day, it's good to kick back with the actual consoles.

I hear you. That's why I use my TV-Out feature on my computer for playing emulators. Not perfect, but it works.

You could always buy some reproductions from websites like nesreproductions.com

My bad. I've got tunnel-vision when it comes to gaming. There are dozens and dozens of systems, but my focus has always been only on the few I have. I appreciate everyone's input, but I should have been more clear...

RPGs.

I'm looking only for Famicom/NES carts, SNES/SFC carts, and PC Engine hucards & CDs. Specifically, RPGs for those systems released outside the US that can be played by an English-only-speaking guy (me). The only game I know of so far is the UK Terranigma for the SNES.

I have a Honeybee adapter for NES/FC games and a Duo that should play (almost?) all PCE games. Since I don't have any non-US SNES carts yet, there's been no rush to get an adapter for that system.

So, were there any PCE or SNES RPGs released in Europe or Australia or Canada but not the US? Were any all-English RPGs released in Japan for the FC, SFC, or PCE? Yes, it's a long-shot, but if anyone knows, it's the people here. :-)

Thanks again,

Very old old-school-gamer Jeff D

Me again... I have nearly 20 games from gamereproductions.com, and they're fantastic.

Umm.. ok. So short of making your own (reproduction carts) there's Ultima IV for the Master System .. um.. some Japanese Wizardry games? Seriously there's not much.
