Okay I'm pretty sure this topic has come up numerous times before but I couldn't find a thread about it.(Damn four word limit) Anyways I'm looking to buy a new tv since my 1984 magnavox is finally starting to go out. The problem I'm having is wasn't there something about Not being able to use the guncon and NES light gun on HDTV? I don't really recall since I just glance over the thread and wasn't planning on getting a new tv anytime soon. any help would be apreciated. thanks in advance.

You're right... it has come up a lot- but no worries. NES and Genesis light guns will not work on any sort of HDTV. I'm not sure about the guncon, but I think the principle is basically the same. If you want to play your light gun games, keep an analog Standard TV around. A lot of people will say it's "lag" on an HDTV, but it has more to do with the way the lines are "scanned in" on an NTSC set vs. the way they are scanned in on a HDTV (in addition to a slight lag). Even the newer HD sets coming out that don't have "lag" (the 120hz sets) won't work as far as I know.

Get a non HDTV with a digital tuner so you are ready for 2009. Thats probably what I would do if I only had 1 TV.

get a nice hdtv and a junker crt non-hdtv, this way you can play your gun games if you need to.

if you don't care about the gun games that much, it wont be a big deal. if you're a die hard lightgun fan, then i'm not sure what you could do- they really don't produce high quality crt sets anymore, do they?
