Cloud Master is one of my favorite SMS games... I came across this cool looking game earlier today. Do you guys think it is inspired from Cloud Master? Do you think it looks good? http://www.amazon.com/Monkey-King-Legend-Begins/dp/B000TIPWJM/ref=sr_1_24?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1203391651&sr=1-24

This is a remake of Cloud Master. Star-Fish, a company notorious for getting the license to remake old-school games from other companies is behind this production. From what I've heard, it's pretty mediocre. The Generic Monkey King title is due to UFO interactives' localization. They seem to like changing Japanese game names into something generic ala the 1980 publishers.

CHUKA TAISEN! Oh my god... I could cry. I'm gonna keep my eye out for this. You can do a lot worse for $30 even if you're not a fan of Chuka/Cloud Master.

monkey king? hmmmmmm, sounds like a game based off the book journey to the west.

It looks really lame IMO. This reminds me of that Impossible Mission sound-alike game by the same publisher.

I love horizontal shmups, one of my favorite genres, although the prize is a bit steep for such a remake. I hope somehow the Wii mote is implemented in innovative ways. Would be awesome!

Oh wow, gonna have to keep an eye on this game. I've loved what I've played of Cloud Master on the SMS, so hopefully this will at least be as good as that.

So I saw this game at Target today for $15 and was currious. Looked at the back and BAM, Cloud Master. Online ratings seem to be piss poor, but has anyone picked this title up yet? From the screen shots it may be a bit cheesy yet have some potential. Some say it's the exact game modernized with 2D sprites and better sound. Either way for $15 it appears to be good times.

One must also take into consideration how badly shmups typcally get rated in the mainstream press. Really, any niche sub-genre is like that. Heavenly Guardian got horrible reviews, and I really enjoyed that (as long as you weren't using those awful Wii controls).

If someone is interested in the game, I'd at least take a chance on it.

As someone who did take a chance on it a while back I can't say I'm impressed. It's a weird game for a couple of reasons. For one, it's very very short. Now, while most games in this genre are short, this one is 20 minutes long, if even that. Second, it's incredibly easy. Bosses die very quickly. It ultimately feels very amateurish and other settings don't really change that. If it weren't a budget title I couldn't possibly recommend it but to everyone interested I can only say that it's not a game you'd feel a need to revisit more than two or three times.

Aren't most normal arcade shooters like 20 minutes long?

Usually a bit longer, but not by much.

I could get through my Castle Shikigami III for the Wii in.. 30-40 minutes? Maybe shorter. The easy part may not be a problem if you enjoy the gameplay. I've been known to enjoy a shooter or two and many of which aren't hard in the least.

This one should have been released on PS2 along with Castle Shikigami III.

I got this for Christmas and have already 1-credited it. It's fun at first, if you like shmups, but after you play through a couple times it gets very tiring. I just 1CCed it earlier today and by the 2nd reversed loop everything seemed to blend in. Every level seems to have the same enemies which got old really quickly. I enjoyed it somewhat but only because it's 2D and that's what I like. The gameplay is hard at first especially due to the speed of your character. Once you survive a little and speed yourself up, things change. By the third level, I'd say my character was nearly maxed out and had screen clearing weapons. Star Fish doesn't seem to enjoy letting us use any other controllers but the remote which ends up cramping your hands pretty bad. It does seem to have a nice stop feature so you can take breaks and resume play later.

I'd say unless you're a diehard shmup and need to own every US shmup that is released, this isn't worth the $20. On the other hand, this game did make me have the urge to go buy Gradius 2 and maybe Heavenly Guardian later.

this game is only $9.99 new at gamestops

I think it is a great game and I highly recommend it for that price I have played through it 3 times in a few weeks and tried the race mode but I sucked at that.
