Got mine transferred to DVD, so I have no need for my originals on VHS. Call yourself an Atari 2600 fiend? Then you need these comprehensive documentaries in the words of the gang that was there. Incredibly good stuff (and opening bid on one penny, no reserve)!

I'm far more interested in getting them on DVD than VHS... is that possible? :D

Both of you are very naughty...

I bought the vids myself brand new years ago. I then (years down the road) had them digitally transferred to DVD (at my own expense) so I can watch them while on long business flights and in my hotel rooms on my portable DVD player. (I do a lot of business travelling, and these have kept me entertained for many a long trip.)

So, I ask, why am I naughty? I bought the tapes new. I supported Cyberpunks in their heyday. I had the tapes transferred for my own personal use - never to be re-sold or publically presented, then placed them on eBay for an opening bid of one penny with no reserve - so there's no seller gouging going on... Other than the questionability of the transfer (not supposed to have it done with copyrighted materials), I'm not selling the DVDs - ever. They are mine and mine alone. I'm not trying to raise a stink, but I am curious where I stepped on some morality line I can't see. Personal use down the line, as I see it.

(This is also why I'm probably the only man alive with "Howard the Duck" on DVD. I'm certain I'll never see that commercially released either.)

Dude, no matter what you do, there's always going to be someone pointing a finger and saying that. Don't sweat it. If I had a way to transfer the vhs to dvd after buying the vhs I'd do that, but I don't...

Sniderman - you did nothing wrong in my book.

Just to be clear here, I'm not just some schmuck bitching -- I actually helped get these tapes made, though I didn't have nearly as big a hand in it as I did with the Stella Gets A New Brain compilation.

I also want to state for the record that I have nothing against the DVD copy. Hell, I'd love to see those documentaries released on DVD officially.

But, it DOES violate copyright law to sell the originals and keep the copy, like it or not.

Mind you, my statement was more to bust his balls than me being serious, or I would have been a lot more specific about things, or kept it off a public forum.

Ah, see I didn't know that. I always thought it was (of course) wrong to sell the copies and keep the ORIGINALS. So, making copies/backups of something is OK as long as you keep both the originals and copies - juts like software and such. See, that makes sense now. Never thought it through.

And I knew you were just busting the coconuts Russ. I was just honestly unclear as to what I was doing incorrectly. Thanks.

Exactly. Though new laws may make it illegal to even make backups for yourself...

S'alright. For the record folks, I've got absolutely nothing against Tim -- he's a good egg as far as I'm concerned.

I thought that was only if you had to circumvent an encryption in the process?

I believe you are correct, ChudTowr (Chowder!), but the day is fast approaching when everything will be encrypted. You hear me? ;li34tr zjzlo ihgf;hq oihf!!1!!

No, I think it's broader than that in it's wording. Remember, at the same time we're getting stuff like DMCA, they're also changing copyright law to be stricter for consumers.

But bagora's right -- most media is being encrypted now too.
