The first thing that comes to mind is are their any non-Japanese games that are playable on this system and might their be a list somewhere? Also, any idea on backward compatibility on these? Can they play regular Japanese Xbox games or even U.S. games? I am getting a real good deal on this system plus about 12 games and just wanted to see if there was any other info out about its compatibility. Thanks in advance!

Play-Asia (http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-00-3-xbox360_compatibility_guide-49-en.html) keeps a good list of what's compatible with what.
Backwards compatibility works the same as with the US models -- check Microsoft's 360 website (Singapore version is good) for a list of currently backwards compatible games.
Basically, alot of US games are playable, plus all the Asian games (so, cheaper Asia releases and all the Japan games). Asian 360s are a really good deal as you get basically the best of both worlds, and there's acceptably few English language games that aren't playable.
What kind of deal are you getting? Inquiring minds want to know!

I appreciate the info and will check out those sites. I am getting the system with hookups and a wireless controller (no HD or card) and 12 games (Incl. Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata, Project Sylpheed) for between $150 and $200 in trade. When I get it I will post which games they are. Thanks again.

Cool, sounds like a nice deal! You definitely will want a hard drive, by the way.

Thanks again for the info. It seem like there are alot of U.S. games that are playable. I have a 360 already and I just thought it would be cool to have a Japanese system as well. You are right about the hard drive! I honestly can't believe they started out selling some of them without hard drives! The store I am getting this from also has a 20 gig HD for sale as well.

What do you do with a Japanese system when it dies though? Ship it back to Japan?

I am hoping not to find out, but that is a good question. :band:

Are you sure the JPN Eternal Sonata has an English language option?

If the system dies, you're SOL. Microsoft USA won't cover an import system. I don't think you can register a Japanese system without a japanese address...

And the street that I live on is Paseo San Andres....doesn't sound very Japanese either. I really got this system mostly because it was a good deal and partly because it is just something odd to have and if nothing else makes a cool DVD player for the bedroom...next to my gamecube. :rocker: I knew going into the deal that I was probable SOL if anything happened but I honestly got the system in trade for alot of double of games and a couple of systems that I already have. Here is a list of the games/peripherals that I got in the deal:
Japanese Xbox 360
20 gb HD
1 Wireless Microsoft controller
12 Games all ntsc/j:
Spectral Force 3: Innocent Rage
Blue Dragon (3 discs?)
Trusty Bell (aka Eternal Sonata)
Vampire Rain
Senko no Ronde X
Need for Speed Carbon
Bullet Witch
Sengoku Musou 2 (Samurai Warrioris 2)
LoveFootball (Soccer Game)
Enchanted Arms
The Idol Master
Project Sylpheed
The versions of Tomb Raider Anniversary and Gears of War that I have work on this system perfectly so far. I just need to learn to read Japanese now....
Thanks to everyone for input, suggestions and comments!!

...and if nothing else makes a cool DVD player for the bedroom...
The japanese 360 is going to be region locked to japanese movies...
Otherwise, that's a pretty good deal.

If you think the 360 will make a "cool" DVD player, you obviously haven't felt the casing of one after the first hour of a movie...I've gotten third-degree burns.

I've heard that plugging a Japanese 360 into an American power outlet lead to the Kyoto Protocol.

Well I do have some region free movies and the HD drive works just fine for those movies as well. So far so good as all the games work perfectly. Again thanks for the input!
