Just wondering, are his videos still viewable with Internet Explorer 8? I can't get them to load from his site, and now Spoony's videos aren't loading either. Going into properties it seems the videos are hosted through screenwavemedia.com so that's the common issue between them, the old Spoony videos on Blip still work fine, it's just these newest ones are the problem.
I'm wondering if it's my browser. Can anyone confirm if it's a problem with IE8? I don't like upgrading browsers unless I have to.
Frankly, I'm amazed anyone is still using IE at all. I switched to Chrome years ago, and I was using Firefox years before that. Sorry man, I've been so far detached from IE. Wish I could help.

Like I said, I kinda prefer the informative reviews. Like when he talked about the Atari 5200, the Virtual Boy, or even the various Pong Consoles. I like learning about the history of gaming.
Yeah the 5200 one was great. It was actually the first video of his I ever saw. I still consider it among my favorite episodes.

It was a decent video, but not one of the all-time greats. Obviously he's busy with Monster Madness right now, so I'm happy to have an AVGN episode at all. But you can kinda tell he didn't put as much into this one because his focus was elsewhere. Decent, but middle-of-the-road for me.

I enjoyed it. He pointed out the nuisances with the game, and the movie. His ending was funny. He did forget to mention Aliens on the FDS though, which wasn't much better than Alien 3.

It was ok. I don't know but the newer videos just aren't as funny as his previous ones. I still enjoy watching Action 52 The Terminator Series Superman 64 etc. Ikari Warriors and especially Toxic Crusaders was bad. I tried watching his Monster Madness but having trouble with the player.

If you look at it by the way he and the fans have defined seasons, I see it like this:
Season 1 is touch-and-go. It has good and bad moments, but he was still finding his voice, so many flaws and mistakes get a pass. Decent season overall.
Season 2 marks the beginnings of his rise in popularity. Great episodes like the Ghostbusters trilogy, Sega CD and 32X, etc. make this year stand out.
Seasons 3 and 4 are where he hit his stride. Most of his best episodes can be found in these two years.
From Season 5 onward, the quality varies wildly. Much of it is due to his burnout which he admitted to feeling, as well as starting work on the AVGN movie. That said, they're not all bad, and there are still plenty of gems in the pile.
Just my two cents, as someone who's been following him regularly for about 5 years now.

i've been watching since the beginning and honestly, the last many have been horrible. I know he is busy and all but come on. would be better if he just didn't make new ones until the movie was complete.

I'd just like to know if the problem is with the browser before I change it, I don't like installing bloatware or unneeded software if I don't have to. I used to use Firefox with my old PC, I switched when several webpages specifically needed Internet Explorer to run. Surely someone here still has Internet Explorer 8 still installed on their PC and can check, IE8 came with Windows 7 and if most people just use other browsers then IE8 should still be there untouched.

Eh, the Alien 3 video was okay. Actually, despite being yet another LJN game, I actually kinda looked forward to this one because this was a game I remembered reading about as a kid and I was always curious about it.
Also nice that he mentioned Alien Trilogy... I'm gonna have to buy that now (is the Saturn version as good as the PSOne version?)
I am disappointed that he only mentioned the NES one. I'm pretty sure there are other games based on Alien 3, not to mention other games based on the Alien franchise in general. What about the SNES version of Alien vs Predator (which I recall reading was a side-scroller, not a brawler like the arcade game)? Oh well, maybe some other reviewer will fill the void.

Many people bitch, but he does get ad revenue from sites like YouTube for his videos, so the more the merrier for his sake. As for the movie, I think, as it is with most independent films, that James is not capable of performing the remaining editing himself. He doesn't have the expertise, and so he has to wait on other resources to be available. Then he will dissolve perhaps into the hell which is trying to get it distributed in some way.

I know it's easy to complain about the review saying wasn't as good as previous ones but having personally reviewed the game too, I knew about the problems with the game he was addressing as well like bad controls and demanding game play. To me the review didn't need to be overly long because he pretty much covered all the bases in under 10 minutes. Here is my original Alien 3 NES review:

Complaining about the jump in Ninja Turtles is silly because its actually very easy if you know how. You just tap the button gently. If you hold down the jump button you hit the ceiling and go into the water. The nerd is not very good at video games.

Considering that video was from his first season, it's very possible that he was over-exaggerating the problem so that it would make for good video. He used to do that a lot in his early days; die on purpose or make things look harder than they were. He doesn't really do that anymore.

Yeah, the nerd clearly can get past that section since he shows later levels in his Revisiting video. His early reviews kind of annoy me because he's so obviously faking the difficulty... especially since the same people who are okay with it when Rolfe does it will immediately use this same thing against any other angry reviewer.
I've heard that Silver Surfer is actually pathetically easy.

I understand he is playing a character and that is fine, but I just dont understand why so many people hate on the first turtles game. Yeah it can be tricky if you dont know what to do but with a little practice its easily beatable. Its not that long of a game. Its my favorite turtles game on the nes.

It's actually not as hard as the Nerd made it out to be. It's hard and flawed, don't get me wrong, but as far as bullet hell type games go, it's not that bad. And I'm not that good at bullet hells either.

Well I had not played it in awhile, so I went and I just played it for about 30 minutes. Its not impossible, its just hard. I guess the main issue is you die after one hit and the enemies move rather quickly. It kinda makes a frustrating experience dieing so much. If you could take one hit the game would be alot better.

He actually said in one of his videos that one of his biggest regrets in his earlier stuff was the over-exaggeration of difficulty, dying on purpose, etc. He said at some point his gameplay became 100% authentic.

Say what??? Karate Kid was aggravatingly near impossible when I was young. Yeah okay maybe an adult player can figure it out easier, I don't know. Part of what James does is to let the viewer reminisce about his and their childhoods. James clearly played Karate Kid many years ago as a kid, and found it brutally difficult, as I did.

I use to have something similar called Consumers Distributing which is in Canada. Now defunct, I should of kept them but I didn't care really and even my mom regrets throwing them out.
