View Full Version : Is The 20 gig 360 enough or do I need the 120 gig Elite 360?

Ok, the point of this thread is to help me decide which one of these to buy with my tax return money. For those who already have either system, what I really want to know is if 20 gigs is enough storage space? For all my systems I end up having atleast 40 plus games. And I also will be downloading most of the free demos as soon as I hook it up online. Will my 20 gig hard drive fill up quickly or will I be ok? I personally think 20 gigs of hard drive space is too small, while 120 gigs is wayyyyyyyy too much. Microsoft should have made something in between like 50 or 60 gigs. But they didn't and thats why I'm here asking for my fellow gamers opinions. So what do yall think?

I have a 20 GB. I own about a dozen retail games, downloaded a bunch of arcade games and download the occasional demo. I am still at about 7.5 GB, but then again I don't download movies or TV shows. If I did that, then I would probably need the extra space.

I have a 20gig since launch. Fine for me I have 9 gigs free but I delete the demos etc that I download when done with em. If your gonna download movies or shows etc definetly get an elite (if you can find one I've only seen one through my store all year)

I think that the greatest benefit of the 120 Gig HDD is the ability to download a decent to large amount movies and TV shows, and keep them on your HDD with no real worries about space.

I have a 20 Gig unit, and while I'm going to eventually going to run out of space for XBLA Game downloads and add-ons, it hasn't happened in the three years I've owned my system ... and even in the event that I do run out of space, I can always delete purchased items off my HDD and re-download them as needed, since, purchases are recorded via Microsoft's servers and are tied to your Gamertag. (Like PSN and the Wii Virtual Console).

If you can find an Elite, buy it. If you can't then the 20 will be fine. You can always pick up the extra 120gb hard drive later if space becomes an issue.

120.

If you're like me, you've got arcade games, game demos, and videos galore stored on it.

The HD stuff fills up your drive pretty quick. I just downloaded the free episode of Jericho - 2gb for a 45min, 720p episode.

I'm currently using a 20gb drive, and have to delete stuff, constantly.

I'd of said 20 was enough not too long ago, but I say try to find an Elite. 50 XBLA games, 3 Xbox Originals, all of Oblivions downloadable content and content for other games like Forza 2, and a marketplace video I wanted has left me with only about 500 mb's now. Not even enough to download a demo unless I delete something and redownload it later.

20 gigs should be more than enough for quite a while though, and you can always upgrade to a larger hd later. I'd like to do that but they're too expensive.

120 Gig, if you are going to be getting into any XBLA games or demos. I ran out of space on my 20 gig once XBLA got into full swing.

Or you can do what I've done and store your videos (Not the marketplace videos) and music on a external flash drive connected via USB cables to the 360. Its worked out well and allowed me to gain a extra gig or so of space on my 360 by deleting the cd's I had ripped to it.

I actually could've gotten an elite the other day but I went with the Pro instead (figured I'd save the $100 bucks and get the wireless adaptor eventually).

Just keep in mind that it says 20 gigs, but it starts out with only about 13 gigs free (due to pre-loaded demos that you can delete). If you have any intention of downloading TV shows or movies (and keeping them around) go for the Elite.

Very happy with mine by the way. Got it Sunday and have been enjoying Oblivion and XBLA very much. Downloaded Bioshock Demo right away, too. Looking forward to that one.

Actually you only get the +/- 13 Gigs because of the OS thats on the HDD. With the Demos and stuff you'll be down to about 9 gigs of available space out of the box. Deleting that stuff will put you back to the 13.

I've got a 20 Gig system. I'm down to just a smidge over 8Gigs thanks to DLC. New maps tend to take up alot of space, and hitting up lots of Rock Band/GH songs drops your space fast especially if you DL lots (I havn't but i've seen the dent with the handfull that I have downloaded). Demo's tend to take just about 1 Gig a shot, but those are temporary.

I own a 20gb, but if I were just now buying a 360, I'd definitely hunt down the Elite, which as a bonus comes with an HDMI input. For all but the most hardcore of gamers, 20 is probably enough, but if you're the type that hesitates to delete anything to make room then you'll no doubt want the room the 120gb offers.

It's not enough of a difference to make me buy an Elite at this point, but if I were in your position, I'd gladly pay the difference as a new buyer.

So what yall are saying is I should probably go with the Elite if I plan to download and keep alot of stuff on my hard drive. That makes sense enough to me. I really wish Microsoft made a mid range hard drive as well.

Are the Elites hard to find in the US now? They're actually pretty easy to find here, so i'm a bit surprised.

You'd think MS would make more of those since they're in demand, but then again you'd think they'd have fixed RROD by now, too.

50 360 retail games, 40 XBLA games, a clutch of original games on disc that have DLC/saves on there, and I'm at about 7GB free space on my 20GB HD.

But you need an Elite if you want videos or originals- the 20GB won't last very long under those circumstances.

It all depends on how much you are going to download and how many games you're going to play. If you plan to rarely use your 360 the 20 gig drive will be enough but if you are going to use it every day and are going to download dozens of demos, rip dozens of CDs, etc, You'll need the 120 gig drive. I had about 300 megabytes left on my 20 gig before I transferred the data to the 120 gig drive.

It looks like the Elite will be my best best. Thanks everyone for your feedback.

Yeah, this is a great thread. I've been thinking of asking the same thing as I'm planning on getting a 360. Cheers everyone

I'm happy with my 20 gig but if I were buying now I'd go with a 120 but I've never even come close to filling up my 20.

I've got a 20 gig'er and I find that's it's plenty of space. Of course, I stream media from my PC to the 360 so that solves any storage problems.

Ok, now theres the rumored 60 gig 360 coming out before July. Now which should I get?

120 Gig, if you are going to be getting into any XBLA games or demos. I ran out of space on my 20 gig once XBLA got into full swing.

Same here,

I definitely recommend to go for the 120 gb

Is there anyway to get either the 20 GB/120 GB hard drive without overpaying for it? $100 for just 20 GB and $180 for 120 GB is dumb. Microsoft is crazy. You can get 20 GB hard drives easily under 100 bucks now. Any suggestions on how to get a hard drive for the Xbox 360 cheap? I'm looking for the 20 GB one. Right now my only option is getting a used one from Gamestop for $60, but none in my area have them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

There's a rumor they might scrap the 20GB drive and start making 60GB HD's for the Pro bundle.

I have the 120 gig, but I only really download demos. I stream all of my media from my computer, so I don't really need the 120 gig.

I've heard that on another website as well. Looks like I'll have to wait alittle bit longer. But thats cool because they just sent out my tax return yesterday so I have some time left to decide.
