I have only been a member of this forum for a couple of months but I have seen a lot of different people asking how to do various repairs on their gaming systems. I have repaired systems ranging from the Odyssey to the PS2 and was wondering would there be interest in me making videos showing how to do various repairs and information such as where I get the parts and tools from?

If there is interest in this, which repairs do you think I should start with? I am definitely thinking the 72 pin connector on the NES, repairing of power issues on various machines, adjusting and correcting the laser on the PS2.

What format should I put the videos in? I was think mpegs since they are small download size, but is the quality as good as a Quicktime or Wav?

Lastly, where would be a good location to store these so everyone could download them? I have a website but unfortunately it only allows for limited downloads before I get charged. Is there any websites out there that cater to video games that would allow these types of videos to be uploaded and downloaded free of charge?

Please let me know thoughts and suggestions on this!

Regards,

Brian

hey man, i don't know why anyone else hasn't replied yet.. I think that would be an awesome idea! I myself would love to know how to fix all my systems... post them up on youtube, i hear it's pretty darn easy.

people usually charge for this kinda stuff, so thanks for the advice!

That would really help a lot of retro players and collectors on here who have old systems that tend to go wrong.

Here's a suggestion:
Why not do a video on how to get rid of blinking gray screen of death? :frustrated:

Press_Start,

Which system are you talking about? A lot of systems usually have an issue such as this unfortunately.

Start with the 8-bit favorite, the NES!

Please tell me how to rid myself of this wretched abomination that has cursed many NES. :sob:

I'd say your best bet is just use youtube and use your website to link them. I also saw your thread about MAME cabinets I'd say the same about that as well. I don't know what kind of website you have so if it's not about gaming then it would be a little weird to post that kind of stuff on it.

Press_Start,

The NES blinking screen curse is caused by the 72 pin connector wearing out. You can get one off eBay for less than 10 dollars and the fix is less than 10 minutes to do and all you need is a philips screw driver. Also, after the new 72 pin connector is installed, clean all your NES cartridges or the dust and grime on the copper traces will wear out and ruin your new connector prematurely. I guess that will be my first video!

Awesome idea debian, I always want to tinker but I don't want to break, so I'd totally watch the videos!
