I only play 9.5 and 10's

I want to play the top rated games to see if they are actually a 10. Anyone have a list for the 360 of the rated 10 or 9.5 games?

But I'd believe the better question is what are the "best" games overall because a simple rating is subjective and relevant to that reviewer. Reading some threads on praised games for the system would be a good start, or maybe some Xbox 360 owners chiming in.

I think it's a mistake to take a reviewer's word as law, and to assume that anything rated a 9.5 is one of the games for a system that you will like the best. Reviewers can't even agree among themselves, so they probably won't always agree with you either. Learn to judge games for yourself.

I tend to think that the ratings given by the gaming media are a reflection of how much the game's publisher paid them, how much advertising they bought.

I've played some 10s that could suck the chrome off a trailer hitch.

You are probably going to only find a dozen games at best. Honestly, if you insist on playing the top rated games you are going to miss a majority of the best titles of the system.

I know that you want to play good games but do yourself a favor and don't always take reviewer's words for it. I've played games such as vampire rain, monster madness, kane and lynch and viva pinata party animals, All lowly rated games on gamefly, and liked all four of them.

I don't think it's an unreasonable request, actually - for a system like the SNES or even the GBA, for any particular genre you will probably find a reasonable amount of agreement amongst fans of that genre as to what the best games on the system are. In the end the list might not necessarily be very long, though.

But methinks for something like the XBox 360, it is not yet known what will stand the test of time. And in any case, trying to place things on an arbitrary one-dimensional scale will never work very well.

Did anyone actually *read* the first post in this thread? I'm just asking because nobody has responded as if they did. I guess he could have spelled it out and said something like: "I want to do an experiment to see if my personal opinion of games matches what ratings they get."

I'd guess that his title is just to get attention, but that might be giving too much credit; many people suck at coming up with titles for their threads.

Personally, I don't think reviews deserve your time or scrutiny. Besides, fact is, your opinion will nearly always differ. Sometimes a little and other times a lot.

I often disagree with critics on games that I like. Unfortunately, if you are only playing 9.5's and 10's you will have very few games to play.

Did you try videogamerankings.com yet? You can get a list of the top games for several different systems, it pools the averages from hundreds of different sites.

Bioshock (Deserves a 9.5 if not a 10 IMO)
Halo 3 (All hype IMO)
The Orange Box (Very good IMO but it is a compilation of games)
