Now that Video Game Collector issue #9 is out, I figured I'd share with you guys a tool that I created for myself in the process of writing the article "It came from Saturn," which is about anime-based games on Saturn, games on Saturn that turned into anime, and the general influence anime has had on video games and vice versa.

Oh, and finally, if anyone notices any glaring omissions or you have a problem with a game I did list, let me know, and I'll edit the list as necessary. It would be nice to get this resource as 100% complete and accurate as possible. I hope it already is, but it's always possible that something slipped through the cracks.

You forgot Street Fighter on the second list.

I seem to remember purposely leaving Street Fighter off for some reason, but I can't remember why. o_O But yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if there are several anime shows missing, but I'm not really making a point to make sure that one's complete, since this is, after all, a forum about video games and not shows/movies. :) I just threw that list on there as an extra since I had it sitting there. I'll add Street Fighter in there, though.

I have a subscription to Video Game Collector and STILL haven't received issue 8 yet. I've emailed them so many times and they just keep ignoring me.

Melty Lancer belongs in the second list and not the first, as the earlier games preceded the anime series by several years.

There's a tokimeki memorial game or two missing from the bottem list. I dont have the exact names on hand but should have it either Saturday or Monday when it arives. Also, I think Sentimental Graffiti was made into an anime as well. I'd say the Shin Megami games would qualify but so far I'm only aware of a one shot that wasnt realy an actual movie and the Persona series which was just turned into a series this last January. I'll look at my Saturn collection next Monday or Tuesday to see if there's any obvious stuff missing.

Also, your missing alot of Gundam games and I could be mistaken but the Super Robot Wars could qualify in the second catagory as I believe the SRW series as well as OG took place long after the SRW game series came about.

Suchie Pai has an anime, there are several of those games on saturn. Games came first.

honestly the list seems WAY too short to me, but i haven't bothered looking through a title/covers list lately either.

Melty Lancer belongs in the second list and not the first, as the earlier games preceded the anime series by several years.

Thanks for the correction. There are no games in the Melty Lancer series prior than the ones on Saturn/PlayStation, correct?

I'm not sure what you're trying to get at, Fuyukaze. o_O The anime list DOES have Tokimeki Memorial and Sentimental Graffiti. The bottom list is only for franchises that started as games and were later turned into anime and at least one of the games appeared on Saturn. It's not for listing game titles, nor for the titles of particular anime series. I'm a little iffy on including Megami Tensei as the anime is specifically about Persona 3, correct? Persona is a series in and of itself, so it would be a bit odd trying to link it to Devil Summoner, even if they do have common roots. I dunno, if you make a good argument for it, I'll consider it. :) Right now I'm leaning more towards saying the Persona series received an anime (in which case, I wouldn't link it to the Saturn), rather than Megami Tensei, even if one game franchise begat the other.

Gundam games are listed under Kidou Senshi Gundam. Maybe you missed them? If you know any that are missing from that honkin' assortment of Gundam titles, please let me know.

Super Robot Taisen I feel a little iffy on too. It would be kind of odd to say it originated from anime and ALSO originated from games. I know the Original Generation anime was created as a result of the games, but those games are also wholly different in concept from the standards games that pull their mecha from anime, which was the only type of Super Robot Taisen to appear on Saturn. I dunno, this is turning into a "what came first, the chicken or the egg?" kind of thing, hehe. I'm just going to look at it in simple terms: the franchise is based on anime, placing it on the first list, and Original Generation is based on games, placing it specifically, not Super Robot Taisen as a whole, on an anime based on games list, but not in relation to Saturn.

Phew, so much writing. Finally, thanks for the confirmation on Suchie Pai, Cryomancer. I know I was looking it up in the creation of my lists, but I could never get enough information to 100% determine which came first, so I left it off of both seeing as I wasn't planning to write on it anyway.

Tokimeki Memorial Selection Shiori Fujisaki

There's also a Poyopop type puzzle game for Tokimeki as well as a Colums puzle game for Sakura Taisen/Wars in adition to the radio drama. There's also 2 Angelique games for the saturn.

Please dont misunderstand, I'm not attacking you nor your desire to create the list as I'd like to see a complete one being an anime fan and saturn fan as well. Simply trying to help by listing anything I see (or in the case of gundam dont see) that may be missing.

I don't feel like you're attacking the lists or anything; I just don't think you quite understand the direction of the lists. o_O The second list is, again, just thrown on there as an extra, and it's for naming franchises as a whole. It's really doesn't make any sense to name specific games for no rhyme or reason when they don't have anything in particular to do with anime. There's no need to name every single game in the Tokimeki Memorial or Sakura Taisen or Angelique series as the only point is to name which video game franchises spawned anime (and in many cases, the series started prior to Saturn and the specific Saturn games may have had little to no influence on the creation of the shows, hence why I consider it a bonus list as it doesn't completely tie in with the Saturn and I'm not about to create a list of all game franchises that turned into anime).

So, for the gist of it, the first list is for naming Saturn games (based on anime), while the second is for naming anime (based on game franchises that received at least one entry on Saturn).

But if you can name some specific Gundam releases that are missing, I'll definitely get them added. :)

Sorta. The first Melty Lancer game hit the PC-98 before it was ported to the Saturn and PlayStation, according to the official website (http://www.tenky.co.jp/melty1.htm).

Your right, I did misunderstand the original intent. I was under the belief that you were trying to create a 100% list of all anime related games released on the saturn. Reguardless of if they were an anime series before the game in question was released or after the game's release. The second grouping's requirment being different then that of the first group was what threw me off.
