Hello all,
I have been able to get some reasonable priced hosting for my Saturn Collector's Guide CD, so it may now be downloaded (in addition to purchased on CD). This is a large download (approx 600 MB), so you will need a high speed connection.
You can download this for free, of course any donations are appreciated :)
The CD contains gameplay videos for 160 of some of the best Saturn games. This would be useful for those new to the Saturn. And also cool for people who have had a Saturn for a while, and are wondering about some of the rarer games.
If anyone's interested, just go to www.SegaSaturnGuide.com
I would appreciate it if this information is not posted at other forums or websites for at least a couple months. I would like to space out the downloads a little.
Thanks !

DefaultGen,
Thank you for the offer, but for now I would appreciate it if you didn't upload it.
I would rather have people go through my site to get it, so they can read the history behind it's creation. Plus it will make more people aware of the USB DataLink device that I also make.
Then again, if there are so many downloads that my bandwidth is exceeded, I may change my mind :)

Very nice work! What programming language did you make your program in?

downloading now. can't wait I bought a saturn not even 6 months ago and played many of the popular and some (almost all of) the rare/expensive titles with the exception of psychic killer taramaru which I have seen video of. I just sold it though (my saturn) but may buy another if this thing of yours can convince me (and a nicer one than my previous which was an old US system with a 3D control, an aftermarket control and an Svideo connector and a 4 in 1 cart and ST key)

gonzo90017,
Just click on the "Get One" button and scroll down. The link should be obvious...
debian4life,
The program was written in Visual Basic 6.
I have to say, this is a really great board. I tried to post this news at gamefaqs, and the mods deleted my post!

I'll vouch for Gameofyou as well as the quality of his product. Back when he was selling a physical copy, I bought one and was pleased with its overall quality.

That's GameFAQs for ya. I like the place, especially certain boards where we don't get the lamers, but one of its weaknesses is it will moderate messages like this one.

What resolution are the videos in and how many run for more than 15 seconds?
Speaking of the videos are they encoded in h.264 with AAC audio as if not that would probably make the filesize of the disc tiny.

This looks great! Downloading it as I type. I must except defeat and admitt that you beat me to it. I was planning on making a similar program for both the Sega CD and Sega Saturn.
This looks really well done and must have taken a LOT of time. Thanks for sharing this...... Can't wait to check it out...... Hmmmm only 26% done...... Maybe I'll play some Saturn to pass the time:rocker:

Hopefully, the slow downloads are just due to the initial demand of a lot of people downloading at once. I hope everyone was able to get it. I will be away for a few days, but will check back in, once I get back.

You should still make a Sega CD version, that would be cool.
Yes, this took a lot of time to make. Mostly because of the time it took to capture all the video.

Right now I am downloading it, and donated a few bucks as well. I know I will enjoy this, and bring the Saturn joy back on me. Cheers!

A typical Windows installation will include the codec necessary to play the videos. If, however, the videos will not play, you may have to install the codec manually. Do not pay for the codec! You should be able to get this free. I believe the following link will let you get it for free: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Indeo_Codec.htm
I also think I included a link in the readme.txt file (but this may now be outdated).
Also another bit of info for anyone having trouble running this.
1) The files need to be unzipped to a subfolder (as opposed to a root directory like c:\). So make a directory called c:\saturn_cd or c:\program files\saturn_cd to unzip the files into.
2) The exe MUST be run from this same directory. I think that it is acceptable to create a shortcut on your desktop. But if you do, just make sure to "create shortcut here" and not "copy here". If in doubt, just use Windows Explorer and run the exe right from the directory.
I will try to add this info to my webpage as soon as I can.
Has anyone been successful at downloading/running this yet?

The link in the readme is outdated.
I found it here... http://www.darimcctv.com/support/reg_software.php
It's the "IV5SETUP.EXE" link
Although I think your new link looks good as well

Yeah once I downloaded the codec all was well, not a bad start with a few changesand a upgrade to dvd it would be worth purchasing.

Have you considered using bittorrent.... Could reduce your hosting cost considerably.

I don't have any updates planned for the near future. I am now focusing on my Saturn USB DataLink project (www.GamingEnterprisesInc.com).

Was you the maker of the videos? I've watched some and think that Powerslave video is on youtube, or at least you took the same steps... XD
Wanna help to add more titles to the enciclopedia? ^^'

Yeah, I captured all the video myself. I made this way back in 2003, so if the same video is on youtube, it was taken from my cd (not the other way around). I don't think youtube existed (or at least wasn't popular yet), when I first made my cd.
If you want to see the history of the CD updates, you can click on the "what's new" button.

Sorry for the late response. It will not work directly with a MAC. You would have to use one of those "Parallels" or "Boot Camp" programs, to allow your MAC to run Windows applications. I have never tried this though...

I have now placed most of the Saturn videos from my CD onto YouTube. Due to the limitation of 10 minutes per video, I have split this into 6 volumes. If you do a YouTube search for "155 sega saturn", it should find all 6 videos.

Since some of the title screens are in Japanese, I received questions about what some of the game titles were. I have now added all the game titles in the description section. Enjoy!
