View Full Version : Is there a viable alternative to Ebay?

Watching Ebay hike their seller fees the last few years I have been looking at some alternatives, so far none seem very good.

Today I thought I might have found one in OLA or Online Auction house. Went to register and never got my verification code. Sent a email to their support and still after 7 hours have not received a reply. My thinking is that if something as simple as a registration activation is this hard to do then the site can't be that great. I also went browsing through the seller feedbacks and most had only 30-35 in the last 6 months meaning they probably aren't getting much business.

So what/ if any are good alternatives?

It depends on what items you sell, but the sad truth is that overall, no, there really isn't a true alternative to what ebay provides. That's the reason they're able to raise fees. Where else are you going to go?

While, I don't agree 100% with Ryborg, he is somewhat correct.

That being said, if people take to www.gamegavel.com, the newest online auction house tailored to Video Games and related merchandise only, then it could be a viable alternative to ebay!

I have decided to try out both gamegavel and ecrator to see how it goes.

To my knowledge, NintendoAge is working on an auction setup similar to eBay...though it hasn't gone live yet. There's been a few instances there of just using a forum thread and the site's clock to hold auctions, notably for the most recently sold CIB Myriad 6-in-1, a factory-sealed Chubby Cherub, and a loose Stadium Events NTSC (all NES). Odds are, if you have anything mid- or high-level NES-related, you'd probably have the best results going through NintendoAge: the sealed Chubby Cherub sold for $2175, the Myriad for $2100, and the Stadium Events has about 20 hours left and is at $1475...
