Can someone look at this auction & please explain to me as to why I`m being charged an 8% sales tax? It says they do for the state of Florida, but I`m in Wisconsin. Is there anything I can do? So far he has not responded to my e-mails & the charge is still in my invoice. I have never paid sales tax on Ebay! Here is the link:

Some states enforce sales tax even on out of state orders, I remember seeing an article on how PA changed there law just because QVC was doing to much business in their state.

Sure, but it doesn`t state it in the auction. I`ve bought items from all over the US & never had to pay a sales tax before. I won`t pay it, as it doesn`t state that in the auction.

That's right...fight the power.

I find it odd that it`s 8%. Isn`t that the same as the final value fee charge now? Come on you Ebay experts, point me in the right direction!

No expert here, and no help either. But I do believe you are, hmm, 'required' to pay sales tax in your state on items purchased out of state if you aren't charged sales tax by the other state or you pay the difference if charged less by the other state. I'm sure that varies by state, but that's how I think it "works" here in Minnesota. It is one of the more absurd tax laws I know of. It may not work that way in WI, or is completely ignored, since so many people come here to MN to buy clothing, which is tax free here.

That's really funny because Florida has a 6% sales tax.

I have made over 1,000 purchases on Ebay & not once have I paid a sales tax. It clearly states in the auction & if you notice, it`s for items "SHIPPED TO FLORIDA!" Not Wisconsin.

Sales tax

Seller charges sales tax for items shipped to: FL* (8.000%).
* Tax applies to subtotal + S&H for these states only

Contact eBay, and keep trying to contact the seller. If he ends up opening an unpaid item dispute, you can use the fact that he's not responding to your emails against him.

You should also be able to get his phone number from eBay somehow. Call him and ask what's up.

He took it off, but you can tell he isn`t happy about it! I`d watch this guy, he seems like a real trickster!

Not having a valid phone number on file with them is grounds for suspension... keep trying.

Well I would have just paid it - it was only a couple quarters extra for a new game...but you didn't have to pay it. E-mailing him was the right method; contacting ebay is next to impossible to do without getting a useless and generic response from them.

You could also have deducted the tax yourself and then PayPal-ed the money to him without using ebay's checkout (you just need his e-mail address).

I generally avoid anyone with less than 99% feedback (assuming they have a 100+ transactions). There is a good chance he will not honor, or take forever on your auction (which is why I would have just paid it).

You have to pay UseTax (probably) on any online purchases you do not pay tax on. This is done when filing your state tax return...

I probally would have done this as well. He probally wouldn't have even noticed it was missing.

Yup, same goes for California.
