There aren't really any countries that I'm aware of where arcades are still thriving.

There's an arcade forum (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=27) that's dedicated specifically to topics like this.

I've been to a few in Japan. They always have a good number of people in there. Though 1/3 of the space is photo machines, 1/3 is UFO catchers and the rest is games

The arcade scene is most alive in Japan, however I just read an article about quite a few arcades closing over there. I think it was attributed to the immense popularity of the Wii.

Here it is: http://www.reuters.com/article/rbssConsumerGoodsAndRetailNews/idUST21027320080207

Still alot of arcades here, but nothing like the US heyday in the 80s. I'd bet its the rise of the DS, not the Wii, that's putting the nail in the arcade's coffin.

When I lived in Malaysia (recently) there were still quite a few arcades to be found, with some interesting games, to boot.

Thailand has alot of arcades as well, but true to form they are usually jerry-rigged PS2 setups playing Winning Eleven or Virtua Fighter. I did see a Guitar Hero setup in Chiang Mai in November, they had Pop-n-music style buttons instead of a guitar. Bizarre.

I visited Hong Kong a year ago and there were a number of arcades with quite a bit of activity within... Mostly candy cabs were present, but there were a number of rhythm games too.
