How good of a snes/nes clone is this?: video game central did a review on it and it looks pretty sweet. does any one own one that can tell me how it is?

Actually, The Retro Duo is different from what I hear. It has been reported that the Retro Duo plays ALL Nes games without many hiccups, including Castlevania III. It even reportedly plays Starfox on the SNES with the proper colors.

In other words, it supposedly is different. If it does play all, then sign me up. So far, I have been impressed by the reviews.

UPDATE: I checked on Cheapassgamer.com for the thread and posts. Supposedly, Castlevania 3 works like a charm.

My business sells them and we have a demo unit always going.

Give me a list of games and their potential problems and I'll check it out when I get the time.

Haven't played one myself, but here's a link to the review you mentioned (http://videogamecentral.com/gamersvoice/index.php/2008/the-retro-duo-has-arrived-nes-snes-and-super-famicom-system/).

If it plays Castlevania III and some of the other games that won't play in other NES and SNES clones, that's pretty impressive.

I own both as so many of us do. Still this catches my eye. I'm sure a few of my dollars will follow...

This (http://forums.benheck.com/viewtopic.php?t=22958) might be handy for anyone wanting to know anything and everything about the Retro Duo.

Have to be honest with you...100% NES/SNES play, some Famicom titles, Nice looking unit with nice looking controllers AND stereo/S-vid outs...this is the first clone I've ever been interested in...there's a good chance I'll pick one of these up.

I'm kind of thinking about picking up one myself. I need a way to compact some of my systems for playing (too little space for all that I have) and this seems like a good way to do it.

Anybody know if the Super Gameboy works with it?

Got it, am not quite thrilled with it. S-video output doesn't work with the NES -- the picture is extremely grainy and fuzzy. In the YouTube video about the product, it's said this is how the hardware is supposed to be -- the NES wasn't designed for S-Video capability. I don't know if this is true or not. S-video works great on the SNES, but the original SNES had S-video capability anyway. I also can't make the SNES work well through the composite out -- it has a similar grainy and fuzzy look as the NES through S-video.

To make a long story short, it works decently as long as I run NES carts through composite and SNES ones through S-video. Kind of a pain. (Oh yes. And the first one I ordered didn't work. Not a flicker on the screen. Had to send it back and have it replaced. Ugh.)

It has full Super GameBoy support.

As for the video output problems, this is the first I've heard of issues, I wonder if you got a replacement that is defective too?

Well, this is the issue for me. If you go through two systems and neither works, why would you want a third? I decided to cut my losses and keep the current one. But it doesn't inspire confidence in the product.

Did you have an FC Twin? If so, does it compare equally or worse? I myself don't care for the FC all that much. I prefer to use the original (however, no matter how clean my toaster nes or games are it seems I am subject to the blink all too frequently).

I concur with the video output issues, but AV seems to have more vibrant colors than S on it. At least the sounds are correct on Super Mario Bros!

So, the Retro Duo actually plays NES sounds correctly? What about the colors - are those accurate too?

I sell these as well. The FC Twin's were crap, but the Retro-Duo's are pretty solid. My only issue with them is that the pack-in controllers were kind of stiff and not very responsive. Otherwise, every game we threw at it worked well.

NES Kirby's sound is wonky and Super Mario World looks washed out.
That's all I've seen so far...

Super Mario World is only washed out if you use S, it's fine with AV.
