Are those 72 pin connection replacements for the nes worth it? I removed the old pin out of my nes and was thinking of getting one off of ebay.

Yes they are worth it. Get it from MCM electronics instead of EPAY. They are around $7 I think.

Why did you remove the old one if you're not sure you want a new one?

I had the system for years and i dont have any nes games so i removed it. If i dont get a new pin, its not going to be a big deal, because like i said before, I didnt play this thing in years....and Because i could @_@

Just bend the pins back in place... that's what I did with mine. It makes the machine function a lot more reliably, although the cartridges are a bitch to remove if you tighten the pins too much. I think there was a guide on Classicgaming.com that showed you how to do it... let me do a little searching over there and find out for sure.
Ah, there it is! This should be of some assistance.

I would buy a new one. It is well worth it. I wouldn't buy it at MCM electronics though. They will probably charge more for shipping then what you can get off of ebay for.

I took mine out, and did some heavy duty cleaning with half alcohol half water, and pushed the pins back out a lil. Every games works first time, no jiggling, or blowing or whatever. But then again, if you can get a new one for around $8 shipped, either way your a winner...

mcm has them for $5.99 but you will get charged a flat rate of $8.00 for shipping (they will not give you a shipping quote as they deal only in bulk.) http://mcm.newark.com/NewarkWebCommerce/mcm/en_US/support/catalog/productDetail.jsp?id=83-3785

If you are going to get them (and they make the units work like the first day they left the selves) get 5 or so as you can use them to repair the $5 flee NES's you find that, "don't work just blink."

Also pick up one of these, so you can open all your consoles and carts for cleaning. http://mcm.newark.com/NewarkWebCommerce/mcm/en_US/support/catalog/productDetail.jsp?id=22-1476
$7.99

Don't bother going to the source if you only want 1 72 pin and nothing else.. Ebay is cheaper.. But buy 2 - 72 pins and the screwdriver set (people sell these on ebay for $15+ :P) and you will have saved some money.

that pin bending thing doesn't work for me.. all it did was make it hard to pull out cards (rubbing more of the cart away each time.. GOOD WORK!)

buy the new pin.. save your carts all that wear..

Please.. think of the carts.. :(

Except that the new connector is just as tight if not tighter than what you would get from bending the pins back... :hmm:

A new 72-pin is MORE than worth it!! The replacement connectors are made of MUCH better metal than the originals. YOu can even find them gold plated, which is the best possible:

If it's 10 bucks, so what? I guess it depends on your priorities. For me it's worth it, so I never have to worry about having problems. I bought a refurbished NES for 50 bucks, which might be steep, but fuckin' Funco/Gameslop in my area sells NES units for 50 bucks, and nobody had them!! And I can't imagine those yahoos are going to replace the pin connector. Are the old toasters really getting scarce?

I found a toaster being thrown out during city wide trash day and bent the pins so it made a tighter fit, worked great, total cost $0. Third one I fixed with this method. As mentioned, the only problem is getting them too tight so it's hard to remove games.
