I'm looking for all games with cutscenes that are so terrible they end up being immensely entertaining and hopefully hilarious. Some people might not "get it," but I think most the forum is with me on this and knows what I am talking about. Games from any generation are appreciated, but older games with bad cutscenes are probably more plentiful and worse in production quality.(read: better in this case) There was a recent thread on this subject, but focused on such titles with good gameplay. I really don't mind terribly gameplay if the cutscenes make up for it.

I'll start it off:

Last Alert - Turbografx CD
Minnesota Fats Pool Legend - Saturn
Robinson's Requiem - 3DO

Off-World Interceptor :D

THe cinematics were so poorly acted the developer recognized it themselves, and at the last second turned it into an MST3K parody - i.e. two guys sit there in front of the cinemas ripping it apart while you watch.

I always think of Prince of Persia for the Sega CD when I think of bad cut scenes.

The graphics were decent but the voice overs were hysterical.

Great thread! Animal Soccer World is pretty amazing:

So is Shinobi X for Saturn:

There's gotta be more 90s-era FMV stuff out there...any ideas?

I remember Kingdom: The Far Reaches for 3do had some pretty funny voice acting to it. I liked playing the game back in the day, but some of the stuff they'd say just made me laugh.

See, whenever I think of this, I can't seem to get:

"Do you think that love can bloom...even on a battlefield?"

(then, in rip-off-of-Snake-Plissken-voice)
"I believe love can bloom anytime; anywhere."

out of my head.

Metal Wolf Chaos for the Xbox (jpn release). The president of the US fighting the vice president in a mech?? Doesn't get much cheesier than this and it makes the game, which is fun on it's own anyway.

Wonder Dog for the SEGACD.

Puns like Dog-tor Kibble (Doctor Kibble)

Good God. The day I plugged that in (when it was a full priced new release) I was beginning to question the wisdom of my $400 SEGACD add-on.

"I should have been the one to fill your dark soul with LIIIIGHT!!!" - from Devil May Cry. What should have been the most heartfelt scene in the game hilariously phails when Dante's voice crackles like mine in a moment of faltering puberty. Here be it for thou (at 1:17): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obPYsLZwhxE

On the subject of action games that kick ass albeit have cheesy VA-ing... "I swear my victory to this feather!" - from Rygar: The Legendary Adventure. Sadly, I can't find the video for this one, but it occurs after you beat Typhon. Frickin' hilarious, though. LOL

And now, for a slight curiosity: No More Heroes. The acting in the game now totally kicks ass, IMO. But before they got in professionals for the actual game, the trailer... I'm almost certain Suda 51 made Travis sound laughable on purpose. Plus, Sylvia with a Southern accent? Just doesn't suit her. Let's watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGtgqw3IsVI

Alright, think that's all for now. As DefaultGen said, you just can't beat Resident Evil for total horrendousness. Then again, this was back when voice acting in games was given very little regard. What a long way we've come since then, eh? :)

Castle Shikigami 2 is up there. Audio Atrocities has a webpage (http://www.audioatrocities.com/games/castleshikigami2/index.html) with various sound clips from this game (exhibit A/clip 1 and clip 9 are especially cheesy...)

Hotel Mario had some memorably laughable cut-scenes. i also remembered some of the games released by American Laser Games such as Crime Patrol II: Drug Wars had some scenes with hilariously bad acting.

Just about everything on the 3DO has ridiculously bad acting.... but I'd have to nominate Ghen War for the Saturn. Some of the worst acting I've ever seen, and I can't believe it was deemed "good enough" to ship. The game sucks too.

Also, the intro scene for God Hand still cracks me up... I never got very far in it, so I don't know if the rest of the cutscenes are as badly translated, but oh man...

Not just cutscenes... The King of Fighters: Maximum Impact 1 and 2 (a.k.a. KOF 2006) on the PS2 had some horrendous voice acting if you set the voices to English. The endings and the small pre-fight story segments make me CRINGE in horror.

One of these days I'll post a few vids on Youtube.

I have to second the Shinobi game on the Saturn... the FMV looks like the programmers dressed up in costumes and ran around the woods behind their offices filming themselves. Stunningly bad stuff. I've only seen the video of the import version, I don't know if the US release has better footage. I really doubt it, though.

Mortal Kombat 4 had some of the worst endings ever.

They were supposed to be bad. The Mortal Kombat games were never meant to be taken seriously. They were silly and over-the-top on purpose.

If the voices are as bad as the pre/post fight texts then SNK has earned the right to get their own category.

The cutscenes from Mortal Kombat Mythologies are also on Youtube. I suppose they're pretty bad, but there's been worse.

I think though that starting with Deadly Alliance, they tried to be more serious.

Anyway, I'd nominate Wreckless (Xbox). The bad voice acting is made all that much more funny (at least to me) because your commander totally looks like Ekin Cheng, a pretty wooden (but still very popular) Hong Kong actor.

Beatdown (Xbox) has some pretty awful/great voice acting in the mode of the first Resident Evil.

25 to Life and 187: Ride or Die (both Xbox) are so incredibly cheesy, they made me laugh. I think it was GI's review for 187 that said something like "it's US gangster culture interpreted by French people and then translated by Chinese people".

No, this is like... Funimation bad. Another dimension bad.

There's no comparison between SNKGrish and ... this. You should hear the voice they gave Rock Howard, he sounds like... female. D:

I often wonder if Japanese games suffer from this as well.

There has to be crappy Japanese voice acting or else nobody would know what GOOD Japanese voice acting is like.

Clock Tower 3 had some horrible dubbing in it, which just made the game even more painful to play.

Try the voice acting for some of the Turbo-CD games.

YS III sounds like one guy did all the voice acting and was bored while doing it.

It came from the desert? Don't get me started.

Shape shifter sounds like some Dungeons and Dragons fanboys got together in a garage and did it.

Dragon Slayer is just as bad voice acting as YS III, then again I think the same guys did the voices.

Strange, those are really good enough games to make me not care about voices.

I also came across this cutscene from Project Altered Beast. The poster suggests that it features "possibly the most bored actress EVER...", though I can't really tell.

Think about all of the cutscenes in the NES Ninja Gaiden entries.

Even though the storylines were good, it is for the best that we only had text to read and not voices to listen to. I have a feeling if any of those games had been graced by voice actors, that they'd be a shoo-in for the list.

I've all ways like the cut scenes in,NG 1-3 what's funny about is how ryu is caught off guard all the time.

Since he's a ninja you think that wouldn't be a problem what !? lol

Yeah, I was wondering about that. And its not like other ninjas catch him off guard, its just CIA agents.
